TELEGRAPH VIEW

The resignation of Piers Morgan from his role hosting the
Good Morning Britain news show is further collateral damage
from the interview given by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex
to Oprah Winfrey broadcast this week.

Arguably, it is the least important consequence given the
impact on the Royal family and the unjustified international
opprobrium that has attached to the UK following the couple’s
assertion that they were driven from these shores by racism.

But what has happened to Mr Morgan is significant because it
is further evidence of the growing and insidious tendency to shut
out views that do not conform to a set of opinions considered
“acceptable”. Mr Morgan was taken to task by the weather presenter
on Good Morning Britain for declaring that he did “not believe a word”
the Duchess had said about her mental health issues or her battle against racism.

He walked off the set, returned later, and then quit rather
than apologise. More than 41,000 complaints were lodged
with Ofcom, while the Duchess reportedly complained to
ITV itself. Had the on-air contretemps not happened, perhaps
the matter would never have developed in the way it did. But
it is just as likely that the regulator and ITV would have demanded
the retraction, which Mr Morgan was not prepared to offer. Ofcom
was investigating the comments on the somewhat specious grounds
that they undermined efforts to improve mental health.

Despite the complaints, it is at least conceivable that Mr Morgan’s
opinion is widely shared; but even if it isn’t, he is entitled to express it,
as indeed are those who don’t agree with him. Closing down debate,
however, is a dangerous way to proceed.

Thanks for that LT.

Andrew Neil on ITV1HD this morning
would like Piers on his new GBnewsHD
but not the same as what he was doing
on GMBHD itv.

So it could be a different or interview debate show
I am sure Piers can find a new show on that new channel.

Big weeping manbaby behaves without an ounce of professionalism or decorum, refuses to take responsibility, and then brands it "unfair" and "being silenced". It's so pathetic I don't even know where to start. His opinions were never the problem - if they were he'd have been out years ago - his ego, demeanor and sense of entitlement got him the boot. End of story really.

He spent years blaring over people, misrepresenting them with his big-loud-voice and not letting them get a word in, then when it happened to him on a topic that hit a nerve (his personal bias against Meghan Markle) he stormed out.

What employee realistically would expect NOT to be shown the door if they refused to apologise? :idc:

Y'all know its true too, making the attempts to defend his behaviour - not his opinions, his behaviour - laughable.

Yes and After the Break Came Back
he did a full shift.

He had a chance to say sorry
but told GMB he wants to leave

Now GBnewsHD (Free on Freeview & all others) boss can offer a new type show for him.

He had a chance to say sorry

but told GMB he wants to leave

GMB told him he had to apologise and take a clear stance supporting mental health or leave, and he chose to "resign". Let's at least try to be accurate. They call is "termination by mutual agreement" but it's a polite way of saying he was canned because he didn't fit the job requirements any more, and refused to adapt.

WHo he is and how he is

is why they had record viewing figures

people want the drama

and now they are fecked

Yes I already talked about how excited I am at the possibility of seeing him hunkered down like a troglodyte on Channel 87367 "GB News" with Tommy Robinson's cock in one hand, Nigel Farage's arsehole wrapped around the ring finger of the other, and Katie Hopkins sat on his face [emoji23].

In all seriousness it would genuinely amuse me to see him lowering himself to one of these NuRight echo Chambers. I don't think he will, though. He doesn't see himself as that - although it's interesting to realise that both his detractors AND his fans apparently do see him as that. A rare moment of consensus.

Perfectly put.

SIR – The Duchess of Sussex has a pack of cards stored for use against our
monarchy and press. If anyone says they don’t believe her stories, she takes
out a card and plays it. Piers Morgan came under fire in just this way.

However, as someone who has had mental health issues and has known other
sufferers, I can say that I was not affected by Piers Morgan’s comment. He was
giving his opinion on the whole interview, not just one part of it.

No hard feelings from them.

And they are going to Debate
Freedom of Speech

All far better than slow bbc1AM

Had to switch over , cannot stand the waffling big headed Ben Shepherd . We are kinda left with no news channel to watch now as can't stand BBC news or monotonus Sky and their boring presenters.

I wonder if you have any thoughts on what he might mean when he says she must have be thinking that she "owes" him? It's OK if you have none, of course.
