Hmm it seems maybe there is an element of public funding? either way that's not really an argument since it can just be done circularly. Some will want it to go ahead, some will not, all pay taxes, so the decision can’t be in public hands.

On balance though I think an arbitrary cancellation is a bit harsh, if it’s based on assumptions of content. I think (if this is not what happened) the venue holders should have asked him for a script or outline of the show’s content and made the decision from there. If it seemed fine from the outline and then went wildly off-piste they’d be able to say that in their defense, and would be justified in then banning him (as would other venue holders).

As with a lot of these things, the "vote" should be done with people's wallets. If hardly anyone shows up, the venue (or booking agent, whatever) will lose money, and probably won't bother again.

Why these people in positions of power and trust get away with this bigotry is because nobody does anything but talk about it. They're not bothered about people chatting about it, what needs to happen is action taken against them. It's discrimination and all involved need to be finding new careers.

Cut their funding.

Sure let's have them cancelled like they cancelled chubby because being cancelled is fine as long as it happens to the people I don't like.

They did something to deserve it, Chubby didn't.

These are people in positions of trust and power paid for by the tax payer, with that comes a certain responsibility. Chubby is just a guy trying to make a living from being a comedien.

I saw that Parmy and did a follow up post. That said, receiving bulk funding from the council doesn’t change the fact that they’re an independent org and not beholden to the public in decision making - especially if they had a clear statement of values in place before receiving that funding. The council might be pressured into not funding them again, though.

I work in the 3rd sector these days (2.5 years now) and the way 3rd sector interacts with public entities and for-profit entities is quite interesting …. It doesn’t work exactly the same as either (hence, 3rd sector, public and for-profit being the other two sectors). They’ll have multiple funding sources and those sources trust the org to make decisions and have no influence over the decision making process other than declining funding in future. They’ll often be in multi-year contracts and that funding can’t be withdrawn, all they can do is threaten not to fund in future (which could be multiple years away, and memories are short).

So how do you know he's actually racist? Or do you think Francis really is Holden's nan ... After all, he did say he is!

Do you think everything ever comedian says is literally true?

"An actor pretending to be someone's Nan is comparable to someone finding racism funny. It's comparable because I said so. I have no other argument"

If people didn't bitch and moan, he could perform his show to a dozen or so people, and those who don't like him could just not attend.

I think you've hit the nail on the head tbh.

The Venue didn't care about his jokes until complaints from a few groups have happened, so obviously this isn't really the venue deciding for themselves that they don't want him there, but are instead being peer pressured into not having him there.

Tbh from the Youtube video that I watched I personally didn't find his jokes that funny tbh, but I wouldn't personally try to spoil it for his fans by wanting him to be banned from venues, I just wouldn't go to one of his Shows.

But tbh I am very anti-Censorship anyway, I ****ing hate how these groups try to dictate to these venues, or whatever type of entertainment company that you want to think of, about what they can or can't show.

Imo barring the most extreme criminal offences (because even I have a line that shouldn't be crossed) anything else is fair game in my eyes.
