Former cabinet minister Sir Geoffrey Cox earned £54,400 for legal work that he carried out in August, the latest details on MPs' earnings show.
They also reveal that Prime Minister Boris Johnson received free use of a suite at Heathrow Airport worth £1,800. MPs must reveal any additional income - along with gifts, donations and shareholdings over 15% - in the register of members' interests. It is updated every two weeks and MPs may be sanctioned if they don't comply. The latest register shows Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross made £6,728 for football referee work from November 2020 to January this year. He had apologised for failing to fully record his MSP salary and earnings as a football referee. Former PM Theresa May declared flights, meals and accommodation for three people worth £7,611 for a visit to San Marino. Meanwhile, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has declared book royalties of £135.78. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59336581 :skull: i would say that if an mp's earnings in parliament are not their main income then being an MP is not their primary job, its a part time top up to enable other income. That is wrong |

Yes The Labour Fella is a bit young Lacking Experience? |
NewsnightHD BBC2
had their reporter there the red faced Labour Lad was aged 2 in 1997 He really lacks experience. But there is anger at the Westminster Trouble we find out this Thursday who wins? |
I don't think age is a barrier to competence of being a good constituency MP.
Of course I'd love to see a Labour win here but I can't see it. Okay there'll be a sleaze factor and the recent chaos of this PMs own making by his deceit. That's not the fault of the new Con candidate however. This has been a Con seat since it was formed. Labour and Lib Dems have alternated as to being in 2nd place over the years. The closest Labour came to winning it was in 1997 only. The Labour candidate is a good one and I hope he does well. Age doesn't matter however, how on earth is there going to be more young people coming forward for election if people are going to discount them because they're only in their 20s. That surely shouldn't be even an issue. Especially looking at the mess much older politicians in high office are making of things. |
"I don't think age is a barrier to competence of being a good constituency MP"
On this Labour Lad he is not experienced enough they should have picked, an older fella. |

Labour's lad Ben Wood. Yesterday, from his own twitter feed. Older helpers have to help in. |
Older members and volunteers always help in elections.
Regardless of the candidates age. He's not going to be Prime Minister or in a high profile political position?? Plus he's past his mid 20s. He's hardly just out of school. He's only about 3 years younger than me in fact. |

Sure but watching him on NewsnightHD BBC2 last night. Showed him as a boy. |
Quote:
What??? :joker: He's not a boy now. He's from the area, his schooling was in the area. |

It's possible the Lib Dems may.
It depends on which voters band up behind the one more likely to win this strong Con seat. I still think the Con candidate will win it. |

Yes it could be a late night race between Conservative and LibDem. |
Lib Dems have Won.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics...ount-continues [Helen Morgan, the Lib Dem candidate, took 17,957 votes, ahead of the Conservatives’ Neil Shastri-Hurst, on 12,032, a majority of 5,925. Labour’s Ben Wood was third, with 3,686 votes.] Ed Davey has Covid. so Remote |
thats a simple statement by voters that they don't like sleaze or double standards. Im glad the tories lost it
|
Losing such a "safe" seat, I wonder if a vote of no confidence is coming for BoJo. The backbenchers have been stirring for a while from what I hear, and that's who makes up the 1922 Committee...
Sorry if this has been discussed, but why was it the Lib Dems who were being bolstered as the replacement instead of Labour? I mean, obviously it worked as she won :joker: I read that some would-be Labours revolted because a well-liked candidate was deselected? |
i think it's a warning to the tories that the public won't stand for all the nonsense. They really need to up their game quickly

It used to be in the main the Lib Dems as challengers really. You aren't going to get Con votes here going to Labour. The Lib Dems do seem to be regaining some trust in strong Con areas, after the rout of the Lib Dems post the coalition. Labour votes, many of them, went tactically to the Lib Dems to get the Cons out. It made perfect sense to do so. This happening across the Country would see the Cons well beaten in a future election. Labour carried out a lower key campaign. I repeat there never has likely been a chance of and there never will be a Labour MP for North Shropshire.. It was right for Labour voters to support the Lib Dem. Because in this seat, the Con votes that would change were always more likely to go to the Lib Dems. So a good result. Yes, it's a by election on under a half of voters turnout. So this could return to the Cons in the next election. Although the size of the new majority, 6,000, was unexpected. I thought the Cons would hold on. I never saw this result coming in this Con massive stronghold. I support and was pleased to see Labour voters in a seat they can't ever win, putting their support to the party who could beat the Cons by taking the Con votes too. It's unfortunate this kind of thing doesn't happen across the board actually. |
"You aren't going to get Con votes here going to Labour."
Very true Joey they Jumped to our old bed fellows LibDems. |
Tim Farron had a Blue Boris Balloon
burst by the new MP. He is there as Ed has Covid at home. Tim is Bigging the win up "Since the War" |
Many Conservatives
thought this would happen for this seat. LibDems are Dreaming they will not take UK power in 2024 |
Hopefully it will send a message out to the Tories, they need to sort themselves out.
|
Also confirmed
loads of Labour Voters jumped to LibDems. |
