Like i said before, i think they both have an understand where they're allowed to shag others.

It’s all a bit odd…I mean the presenter did seem a bit in shock after the whole debacle sunk in…but that’s the only thing that will convince me it was real. However the presenter also seems to lean his head towards WS right hand to make the ‘slap’ reaction look more exaggerated…

A lot of people are saying he was wrong though. It's not like people didn't already love Will Smith or that he needed a career boost, he literally won an Oscar the same night. So why would he do something so risky to jeopardise that? He's lost more fans than gained imo even if some people think he was in the right

Alopecia is not a deadly disease though, it fundamentally affects a persons self esteem, so in that regard Will completely over reacted. On the other hand, it's not really good form to undermine an individuals self esteem in front of a live world wide audience.

I just find the whole thing quite bizarre and then to see Will having a great time at the after party afterward is weird. It's like he has no self awareness at all

Yeah by sounds of it the joke was insensitive , wonder if Chris Rock knew about Jada's condition?.

It's ashame Will Smith lashed out the way he did , he could have handled it better.

He should have just said to Rock " listen man that joke wasn't funny " or something along the lines of " you've crossed the line there". And he could have made Rock feel bad about what he said. He should have just used his words and stayed calm .

But by getting angry and throwing his hands , it's made him look like a loose cannon with a short fuse. And Rock probably enjoyed winding him up despite being taken aback by the slap .

I did wonder if it was staged ,but it seems like it was real as both reactions of Smith & Rock seem like genuine anger & amazement.

Also his initial reaction was to laugh…although his wife’s reaction was the opposite…

So overreported, how is this front page news? No one cares about Will Smith anymore, no one knows who Chris Rock is, no one watches the Oscars.

It seems once he saw how upset Jada was then that pushed him over the edge.

Like I said nobody is talking about the actual Oscars, they're more focused on will Smith's outburst. Which is why I initially thought this was some publicity stunt , now I think it's real.

But this year's Oscars will be remembered for a silly joke that Chris Rock made, and Will Smith slapping him on stage.

What on earth has that got to do with anything, once again you're making this into something it ISN'T.

But what I will say is if a comedian from across the pond made the same joke re : Will Smith's wife ie Ricky Gervais ,then I think more people would dislike the comedian.

As I've noticed Americans look after their own ,but when a British comedian goes over there and pokes fun / makes risque jokes, then it's frowned upon alot more .And they seem to resent it.

Outburst? That was physical assault from my vantage point.

If you or I had have walked up to a TV show host on a live broadcast and slapped them in the face, we would have been taken to the floor and handcuffed immediately. Mr Smith just casually went about is business and picked up an award as though nothing had just happened.

We wouldn't have been partying afterwards like Mr Smith was either. We'd have been locked up in a jail cell.

We can all see it's physical assault ,nobody is denying that .

And i already said Will Smith should NEVER have done that. If he was so angry he should have just used retaliated with a better joke or just told Chris Rock that he's gone too far.

he has now gone in to damage limitation mode with an insincere apology hoping to save his career

I've seen a lot of people say that if Will hadn't done that no one would even have remembered the joke 5 minutes later and it's so true, a lot of people either wouldn't have got it because they hadn't heard of GI Jane or would have just thought it was because Jada shaved her head as a style choice and it was a pretty tame and not that funny a joke (me, I had to Google what was offensive about it) I mean if Chris genuinely didn't know about her condition either he must have been really confused because it was really light in that case. And tbh if you look at Chris reaction it would lean more on the side of him not knowing because he did seem really confused about why Will got so angry

As a side note, Jada looked gorgeous with shaved head, it would never have occurred to me that she shaved because of a condition, I would have just thought it was a style choice

The thing is Niamh ,yes Chris Rock might not have known about Jada's condition ..but at the same time the joke was a silly one. And even if it was a style choice ( which plenty do just decide to shave their hair) why did he feel the need to comment on her hair.

But Will Smith should never have lashed out in violence. He could have just used his words back. Be smart & not used his hands. He could have just said he didn't find the joke funny, and mentioned Jada's condition. Then I think Rock would have felt bad & maybe even apologised, who knows.

Chris Rock is fortunate it wasn't cancer & chemotherapy
Jada was going through. Thankfully alopecia isn't life threatening, but people will still be conscious and it's still a sensitive personal thing.

Alf 29-03-2022 12:22 PM

I keep changing my mind whether this was a set up or not.

The thing that makes me think it was a set up was Chris Rock leaning slightly forward and the way his hands stay behind his back. Normally it's instinct to protect yourself with your hands when someone is coming at you like that.

Alf 29-03-2022 12:24 PM

The joke was fine. The audience were laughing and that was Chris Rocks job.

Josy 29-03-2022 12:26 PM

I can't believe I've only just noticed Chris Rock has his hands behind his back , I totally missed that yesterday:facepalm:.

I don't know what to believe anymore. Originally I thought it was a set up, then I thought it looked genuine. But now I don't know.

its being blown up out of all proportion, she looked great, GI Jane looked great, he wasn't comparing her to anything or anyone ugly, people are now saying she has a disability....its a condition folks, an auto immune condition and the body can learn to deal with it and people with the condition can have their hair grow back, I think his reaction was well OTT and nobody should be able to walk on stage like that and assault another person and get away with it, he should have been asked to leave on the night

The thing is, maybe he had an envelope in his hand (not sure, I'll have to re-watch) but still, a usual reaction would be to protect yourself with your hands. His just stay behind his back until he's been slapped.

Alf 29-03-2022 12:45 PM

I also found it fairly odd that no security reacted. Will Smith could have pulled a knife or a gun out for all anyone knew.

The security people need to answer questions.
