Where have you seen this? I don't get how people come to this conclusion.

CBB is a stand alone series now, it gets far more than double the viewers and god knows how much press attention im sure Endemol would be willing to agree to just show CBB.

This is the case in India where Big Boss only has celebrity housemates.

I haven't seen it anywhere, but I assumed that they would always move together. If anything, if civilian BB were to go down more, wouldn't they just cancel the summer CBB? That will save them probably the same amount of cash in comparison to a civilian BB, yes, it may be shorter, but the celebrities fees will make that up.

Civilian BB for 10 weeks
CBB for 3-4 weeks + paying for celebrities

Probably will be the same price.

Yeah I cant see one without the other...regardless of contracts and all that malarky....it would be a step down to have just CBB in my opinion. Kind of a winding down of BB as a brand

No, why do you think they run 2 CBB's a year? That's their main focus.

They wouldn't cancel a higher rated show (summer cbb) for a lower rated civilian BB imo.

Even though I wish they would.

If you care so much about Normal Big brother why are you going around saying it will be axed

What a childish comment to make.

I love normal BB and have been watching it since you were in nappies.

Ive made it clear that I wish they would Axe summer CBB instead im just posting from a buyers point of view. FGS the posts aren't what I personally feel they are speculation on what could happen and judging by this series it looks very possible BB could go.

That's not me saying I hate proper BB lol im addicted, I watch it every night, im checking this forum like a saddo when im supposed to be doing work.

Seriously if you're going to post then contribute something useful and not petty.

daniel-lewis-1985 01-07-2014 06:30 PM

You know what I think a factor is aswell, when BB 1st started it gave the public a chance to take control of someones life and turn them into a household name and that's why the finales used to be so huge. We were literally changing the winners lives forever but now that's not the case.

Its not a fascination anymore because people can make themselves celebs via so many social network sites and youtube, anything really its so accesble now, people just want to watch celebs these days and not the wannabes.

I prefer the wannabes but that's because normal BB has been a part of my life growing up but now theres a fascination watching celebs warts and all instead of the general public *said with a pinch of salt.

If civilian BB got axed and we just had CBB I think ratings for that would drop from the general BB fanbase. I know I would lose interest myself.

The Geordie Shore comparison is stupid considering one is on once and week and the other is on 7 times a week.

At the end of the day the only thing that gets in the way is money. BB is a high-cost show, but then television in general is an expensive industry. It all depends whether C5 see it as a good investment or not. I think it's still good the show guarantees 1 million viewers a night for 3 solid months, despite how much we all worry about the falling figures.

They could do normal BB in Winter from January to early March and then do CBB for 6 weeks in summer.

The show really isn't guaranteeing 1 million at the moment though is it. Its so close to dropping below 1 million And the Geordie Shore comparison isn't stupid at all.

Viacom are responsible for that show which generates far more interest on social media and isn't far behind BB ratings wise. Geordie Shore is a cheap show to make and BB is a very expensive show, its still got a huge price tag due to its brand.

You said it yourself BB is expensive to run. Other shows like Benefits Britain, Geordie Shore and documentaries are cheaper could easily take its place.

Jamesy 01-07-2014 08:37 PM

All episodes have been around the one million mark and look set to continue. Officials have been adding on 200k plus too.

I've never noticed Geordie Shore being more popular on social media tbh. Although a show that is once a week is bound to have more interest as less brain power is needed to keep up. Completely different kind of show, silly comparison as BB is a one of a kind show.

Big Brother seem to rely on commercial partners for cost, and 1 million viewers a night no doubt attracts advertisers to make use of the ads breaks at this time.

I'm not defending the ratings in any way as I'm not excited over them either. Although this constant negativity over overnight ratings at face value is getting very tedious.

There is A LOT more to a show than overnights. The shares, officials, commercial interests in the show (like product placement and sponsors) and advertisers interest for BB slots all come into consideration.

Again, I'm not defending the show, just pointing out that there's a lot more to consider.

Samm 01-07-2014 08:42 PM

If Geordie Shore was on every night it wouldn't be getting 1m every night

Yeah and the share recently has been below the 6% that was said they expected in an article.

Ive gone through everything regarding advertising, shares, overnights and officials so this post is just not acknowledging anything I said.

In regards to the social media side of things like I said before the cast of Geordie shore have combined Twitter following of over 9 million!

Even their official Twitter has 300k more followers which I find very odd seeing as BB is far more high profile and uses Twitter as a replacement for live feed....Or is it? Are we still in this BB bubble and not in touch with the viewing public?

Anyway the facts and figures are there, im boring myself now and never meant for it to turn into is BB going to get axed discussion.

Lets see what tonight rates ;)

The show has been a continued success for MTV UK. Series 6 has been the highest rated to date with the first episode attracting 1,108,000 viewers, and the second attracting 1,133,000. This is the most viewed episode to date.[47] Series 7 was also the first series in which every episode received over 1 million viewers.

God that's really good rating for MTV.

Jamesy 02-07-2014 10:06 AM

Geordie Shore is quite a jewel for UK MTV. It gets no where near what Jersey Shore used to get though. For a UK reality show it does very well.

*mazedsalv** 02-07-2014 12:37 PM

Another poor one.

1.01m excl +1, so around 1.1m again with +1. I hope that there is a small increase tonight and tomorrow as there are no matches on. If it gets around the same, then sadly we have to deal with these ratings for the run and hope officials can save it.

It could... a triple eviction vote to save, and then bring in 2 women and a man. I reckon that could be a good shakeup.

Brother Leon 02-07-2014 01:07 PM

People aren't going to suddenly tune in, because they put in a couple new people. Unless it is Jenny, which has a bit of media attention. New HMs isn't going to do anything against France Vs Germany and the Semi Finals of WC. Besides...The HMs seem to be the main positive considering how bad the tasks have been.

Josy 02-07-2014 01:10 PM

I don't think new housemates will help anything this time (I just posted a thread about this actually) I think we need to be shown more of a balance from the house, not just constant bitching, we need to be able to get to know the hm's a bit and atm we just aren't getting that.

daniel-lewis-1985 02-07-2014 01:23 PM

Just an awful rating, these are lower than last years Saturday ratings its so annoying.

Oh well suppose we just have to deal with it now its not going to grow now is it.

1.1 with +1 (90k) (5.5%)

Bit on the Side 495k (4.5%)

It did have competition against the game last night though which got 8.42m (39%)

One thing you can't take away from it is it's dedicated audience - even though the ratings are low, the amount of viewers it lost against the England games really wasn't that much when you look at what the ratings have settled at.

Samm 02-07-2014 01:42 PM

A rating with 8 million is big competition but at least it stayed above a million
