...next time you get a chance to movie watch with your daughter, Eighth Grade will be great for a rewatch as well...well, you’ll see at lunchtime...I think it would be an easily watchable again movie...and ugggghhh, some of the cringe moments, we’ve all been there...

Ammi 01-04-2021 09:39 AM

...well not exactly there but, you know.../teenage angst...

Niamh. 01-04-2021 10:10 AM

I'm looking forward to it now

Eighth Grade -

Spoiler:

ah I loved this, poor Kayla, you really felt everything she was going through. That creepy high school guy as well yuck. Loved Olivia and her dad oh and Gabe too, they're date was so cute. Good choice Ammi

Spoiler:

...it was a lovely movie, wasn’t it...I can’t recall the names of the mean girls, I think it was Kennedy whose birthday it was and her thoughtless friend... the way they just totally blanked Kayla like she didn’t exist...but yeah, I loved Olivia as well, she was just so representative of how ‘cool’ is on the inside and a positive outlook, not an exterior thing or being part of a group, you know...and Kayla’s dad and how he wanted to be mother to her as well and spent time learning about stages she would go through.....the love he had for her was just gorgeous and tremendous, that scene with the banana was so funny and oh, you don’t like bananas though...and he actually had put it down in a note that she didn’t like them so he didn’t make that mistake again.....I did cringe though, completely...when he was ‘spying’ on her in the shopping mall when she met with Olivia and co...that would have been me also...OMG, my dad...just devastating......and Gabe...adorable...also not realising how ‘cool’ he was just by being so individual and quirky....a lovely movie.....

...we watched The Mauritanian last night...so many true stories that I haven’t known...horrendous beyond any words... Mohamedou Ould Slahi is the most incredible and forgiving of human beings......

Niamh. 02-04-2021 09:34 AM

Uwantme2killhim :

Spoiler:

what a strange story, I think it was pretty obvious from early on that Mark was being catfished and John seemed the only choice as to who it was. It's funny, when Mark called to John's house and you briefly saw his mother in the kitchen Gavin said was that Rachel? We rewound it and all but couldn't decide [emoji28] it was a good show though, I was saying to Gav, this is probably the future of true stories

Absolutely horrendous what went on there though. I don't know why these people who run these places think they're any better than even the real terrorists nevermind the innocent people who end up there

Niamh. 02-04-2021 07:46 PM

I just watched a film called Run Ammi, I think you'd like it

Spoiler:

...so at the end, was Chloe medicating her mother in the same way so that she would stay in the correction centre forever and Chloe would be safe...(...and she was probably killing/poisoning her as well, she had aged so much in 7 years...)....

Spoiler:

I thought it was revenge, do to her what she did kind of a thing?

I also watched another Chadwick Boseman film Message from the King, it was good too

Ammi 03-04-2021 07:44 AM

...it was very creepy anyway...that one and Greta...

...yeah, I’ve looked at Message from the King many times but haven’t got round to actually watching it so that can be my Easter treat, I’ll try to watch it today and post a review...thank you for reminding me to do that......

You know I've never actually watched Schlindlers List so I'd definitely go for that

...Schindler’s List is showing on Netflix...it’s in the critically acclaimed films section...should we have that next on the list...?...

Oh yes please

Vanessa 03-04-2021 06:43 PM

Omg I love Schindler's List!

Ammi 04-04-2021 05:42 PM

...I’d forgotten that it was over 3 hours so I’m watching it in bits...I’ve not long been home so I’m just watching the first bit now and I’ll try to finish it tomorrow if I’m able to...

Vanessa 04-04-2021 05:48 PM

I'll watch it tomorrow, when I have more time.
But it's a really amazing movie, I love everything about it.
From the performances to the screenplay and the music.
It's just the perfect movie. Spielberg

Ammi 05-04-2021 06:08 AM

...I was going to watch it in bits, Vanessa...because of the length of the movie...?..but then I ended watching it all yesterday...I didn’t quite manage to pause it...such a harrowing/absorbing story....

Ammi 05-04-2021 06:23 AM

...Schindler’s List/2nd watch....

Spoiler:

...I won’t say too much about it because it speaks for itself...one of the remarkable things about Oskar Schindler is that he wasn’t remarkable as such../...in that he wasn’t a ‘hero’ type, he was far removed from that in his mindset and lifestyle etc..but he became that hero without ever intending to...the end scene when he was completely crushed and saddened that he felt he could have done more and should have done more when so many would go on to live a life because of his sole actions...just so incredibly moving...a man who had lived selfishly and who became so selfless because of the hatred and cruelty surrounding him...who saw the Jewish people as a cheap workforce to employ and then began to see them as priceless and valuable lives to save a d protect and never once making a round of ammunition that would harm anyone....incredible and an incredible cast as well......how so many people were brainwashed into extreme hate for a race of people who lived peaceably among is so horrendous....

The last scene, when they're paying their respects to him :bawling:

Spoiler:

...I know, I think that we needed that cry, Vanessa...so many lives that only existed because of him and that he saved and yet the lives that he focused on were the ones he hadn’t been able to save...

Niamh. 06-04-2021 09:46 AM

I haven't watched Schlindlers list yet, was planning to last night but it got too late and it's a long film, there's a match on tonight so will probably watch it tomorrow night instead.

I see In the name of the Father is on Netflix as well, great movie and i'd love a rewatch?

...I was going to mention that to you because yeah, I’m not actually even sure that I’ve seen it at all tbh...so that can be the next one after Schindler’s List...but in general there seems to be quite a few Classics on Netflix atm, I think they’re checking our thread...so I’ll try to get time to go through them and list some because now would be a perfect time to watch some more classics if there is a good choice atm...

In the Name of the Father is excellent, dying for a rewatch of that, kind of in a similar theme to The Mauritanian too

Ammi 06-04-2021 10:20 AM

...ok, these are some of the older but newly added movies..some I’ve watched but would be fine for a rewatch and some I think that I might have watched but don’t recall actually watching...in no particular preference order etc...

Cast Away
Atonement...I’m pretty sure that we had that on the list but it wasn’t showing at the time...
The Game...I’ll try to find a trailer for that because I don’t recall it at all...
Nell...I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen but can’t recall anything about it...
The Time Traveller’s Wife...not sure about this but might be worth a rewatch to decide...
Death Becomes Her...just fun...
The Hitcher
Twister...I’ve probably watched it around 6488576 times so another watch would be fine...
Ai Artificial Intelligence...I actually can’t recall much about that one either...I know the basic plot but the details, I don’t recall...
Zombieland...also fun...
