I honestly think the theory that there's tonnes of life out there, and aliens constantly observing Earth, but that they block all communication to "emerging civilisations" until they're confident that that civilisation WON'T obliterate itself with disease, climate catastrophe or infighting.

Ukrainian soldiers who were reportedly attacked on Zmiinyi (Snake) island are still alive, according to a statement posted on Facebook by Ukraine's naval services.

"We are very happy to learn that our brothers are alive and well," the statement posted on Monday said.

The sailors "rebuked twice the attacks of the Russian invaders," but could no longer continue to protect the island, the statement continued.

Connection with the island was completely cut off and attempts to reach the sailors futile, after Russian armed forces destroyed its infrastructure, the navy said.

Some people – running a variety of pro-Russia and conspiracy-themed accounts – claim the photo above, of a woman injured in a Russian attack, is really from a 2018 gas explosion. That's not true.

The photo was taken on 24 February and has been verified by the photographers who took them and the metadata attached to the images.
