Are we talking all time XI? or Post war XI? Or from a certain date/time?

Give me some criteria.

Ideally 1970 onwards I guess .. around the time I really started ‘watching’ football as well as just playing it ..

Liverpool

In goal would be Ray Clemence. Alisson would be second choice.

Right back. Alexander-Arnold could make it in the future. Phil Neal won a lot and was their right back for a long time. But I'm gonna choose Steve Nicol as my right back

Left back. Robertson would be close but I'm going with someone who didn't play that much left back for Liverpool but did for England and that is Emlyn Hughes.

Centre back. There's some good candidates like Tommy Smith, Phil Thompson, Mark Lawrenson, Sammy Hypia and Jamie Carragher but I go for Alan Hansen and Virgil van Dyjk

I'd go 3 in midfield

To the right side of the 3 Midfielders would be Steven Gerrard. In the middle of the 3 would be Greame Souness and John Barnes to the left.

Up front

Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan and Ian Rush

I wanted to put Mo Salah in but someone had to be left out up front

No John Barnes? John Barnes was a quality player.

Can’t really improve on that much ..

Maybe Overmars instead of Rocky Rocastle and Martin Keown over O’Leary

Rocastle was their best player in those George Graham title winning sides especially the one they won in 89. So he gets the nod for me. O'leary played for Arsenal for about 20 years, so he's in there for his longevity.

[emoji838] “Every single PL point won by Pep has cost Man City £667,000.”

[emoji837] “Every point won by Liverpool under Klopp has cost £243,000.”

[emoji386] “So Pep’s spent 3 times as much as Klopp!

This means that Pep is a chequebook manager like Jose ???

if you do the same calculation for Man U it will be crazy

Also. Man City don't care about cash spent so it's irrelevant to them

True but it is a funny one .. splashing the cash doesn’t guarantee success but maybe it should be a factor when we are considering the best manager ??

Shame it’s time limited as I’d have Andy Gray in there at number 9 :)

For all you Rice fanboys .. TalkSport are devoting the next hour to discuss how he rates against the other EPL midfielders

I’ll give it a miss ...

Rice with a huge blooper after just two minutes - very very fortunate

Newcastle may well lose today but it’s so nice to see them playing attractive , attacking football

Cresswell must have a great chance of getting the England left back spot .

He’s a fab player and I much prefer him over Shaw
