What do you think about this one Ammi?

…yeah we were going to watch that one last night and then got into a video call so didn’t get on it as it got late ….I’ll try watching it tonight…?…

If I don't watch it tonight I'll definitely watch it at lunchtime tomorrow

Ammi 10-05-2021 03:25 PM

……perfect…

Ammi 11-05-2021 06:18 AM

…Mirage…

Spoiler:

…I’ll get the bad bits out of the way first……that’s not to say that it’s a bad film because it’s not at all…but it’s a Spanish movie that the dubbing isn’t great on, it felt a bit long and unnecessarily lingering at times and the music score was very corny and …just boring, holding onto moments for far too long…

….but the story reminded me a lot of Frequency, which is a movie that I enjoyed and maybe a small amount of Deja Vu mixed in as well…I like that time travel, type thing and if there is murder and mystery as well then it’s all good…I also liked the twist that she could save Nico but the ‘trade off’ was that she had to find her way to her daughter again…and it held its suspense quite a bit as well and there was enough twisty stuff…anyways, it picked up speed and pace to the extent that I was more gripped by the story and less gripped by the awful dubbing and music score …it was a worthwhile watch and a good watch and good movie choice……

Niamh. 11-05-2021 08:56 AM

We ended up watching some TV Shows last night so I will watch this at lunchtime instead

Niamh. 11-05-2021 07:07 PM

Mirage

Spoiler:

ohh I loved this movie, it was actually very Butterfly Effect like and I never saw the twist coming at all. Brilliant, could be up there as one of my favourite films actually

I didn't think the dubbing was bad at all, I barely noticed it [emoji28]

Ammi 12-05-2021 11:15 AM

…have you seen either of these two…?…I’m up for any/both as I don’t think that I’ve seen either….

Niamh. 12-05-2021 11:20 AM

I haven't seen either of them, did you have a preference? I'm happy with either too

Ammi 12-05-2021 11:22 AM

…should we watch them in order of Oxygen and then See You Yesterday…?…just because I think See You Yesterday might more compare to Mirage and I don’t think it would be fair for me to compare them back to back as I enjoyed Mirage so much…let that one settle a bit more…?….

Niamh. 12-05-2021 11:30 AM

Perfect  I'll start Oxygen at lunchtime

Ammi 12-05-2021 11:34 AM

…..

Niamh. 13-05-2021 09:02 AM

Oxygen

Spoiler:

hhhmmmm I wasn't a massive fan of this, it wasn't terrible but it was kind of boring and we guessed that she was a clone really early on and the minute she started talking to the woman on the phone we knew it was herself as well. meh it was alright

Also, the oxygen levels were flying down at the start and then it seemed to stay at 4% forever, and she was so frustrating with all the time wasting when she was almost 2%

I saw See you Yesterday a while ago and I liked the nod Michael J Fox's character made to time travel lol .

Spoiler:

it was good and very topical yet frustrating at the same time, but that was the whole point of it I guess.

And once again highlights the injustice with racism & police brutality, and it was realistic in the way something horrible keeps happening and it feels like it can't be stopped yet the person refuses to admit defeat which you admire.

Spoiler:

Another one similar to that which I watched recently was
Two Distant strangers, again very good and emotionally charged, and served as a tribute to real victims who suffered at the hands of trigger happy racism.

And again had the spirit of never giving up despite having everything stacked against you , yet maddening at the same time.

Ammi 14-05-2021 07:43 AM

…Oxygen…I’d watched it a few days ago but forgot to post…

Spoiler:

…yeah I agree with what you’ve said, Niamh …and why do they always do that…you have two minutes left but you’ll waste them because you PEOPLE Always do…it was slow and not gripping in suspense enough, though because there wasn’t really anything new…I think in doing that vibe of story, there would have to be a twist that we just couldn’t have foreseen….anyways, two more positive things that I can think…

…I really liked the actress, Mélanie Laurent…she’s not someone I’m familiar with and is very lovely…looking forward to seeing her in other roles…

…I guess it was the perfect movie to make in social distancing to film etc…because times have been very limited in the industry…I’m not sure if it was filmed in COvID times but it feels as though it might have been…

Ammi 14-05-2021 07:52 AM

…See You Yesterday…

Spoiler:

…this was a Spike Lee movie and released as part of Black History month…?…it was an excellent movie, I loved it……it was obviously a nod to Back to the Future and even a featuring role for Michael J…but blending with grief and loss that families can face which kept it very poignant and emotional as well …I wasn’t entirely sure about the ending and presumed that CJ would keep going back and back until she could prevent her brother’s death plus no one else be killed ‘in his place’ either…that she would never give up and find a way…?…

…Michael J Fox is such a sweetheart, isn’t he…I love his humour and he’s quite self mocking …even in such a small fleeting moment in the screen, he makes such an impact……I loved the movie, GoldHeart…..

Yeah that's what we said as well about it being a proper lock down movie

I have 30 minutes left to watch in See You Yesterday, so I'll finish it at lunchtime

Niamh. 14-05-2021 12:39 PM

See You Yesterday

Spoiler:

Ugh how could they end it like that!!!!?????? A part from the ending it was really good, I suppose there's a more powerful message in there than time travel, that moment when the Police Officer is leaning on Sebastian's neck especially.

One thing that I was screaming at the TV though was why when she was trying to convince Calvin that he was about to get shot did she try to get him to leave like that, that was never going to work, why didn't she run up to him and say "Calvin you have to follow me, there's something wrong with mom" he would have ran straight after her with no hesitation or questions asked

Loved the nod to Michael J Fox and back to the future too

Oh yes I watched that too, it was a very similar theme and way of telling this story, a very clever idea I thought

Oh I didn't realise it was Spike Lee.

Yes i suppose that's the message with the ending which is a powerful one of course but I just wanted to know if she succeeded

Spoiler:

I guess the point is she'll keep trying, I was also a bit annoyed with the ending but I understood the message.

And I don't think she could ever stop her brother from being killed, I think no matter what she tries .

Very much like 2 distant strangers,he knows he's screwed but he keeps fighting it anyway. Bleak reality of it all. But I was still shouting at the telly though lol
.
