Yes I can see that from your user title. ;) My favourite joke from that show is:

Mrs Doyle: I think you'll enjoy what we're having for dinner, Father. You do like pheasant, don't you?

Ted: Pheasant! God, I love pheasant!

Mrs Doyle: Well that's a little clue. The thing you'll be eating likes pheasant as well!

Either that or this:

:laugh2: I quote from Father Ted a lot in daily life

My favourites are usually Dougal lines, the spider baby conversation and him answering a visiting Bishop about whether he ever has doubts about the religion are my favourites

Yeah that's also undoubtedly true of the show's resonance. I also liked Friends at the time btw, don't get me wrong lol. I guess I just prefer having a laugh over relating to the characters. But having said that, Seinfeld is also indicative of what a lot of people are like below the surface imo, even if they don't like to admit it. You ever watch Seinfeld, @Ammi?

Ammi 22-07-2024 07:54 AM

…I’m another one who never really caught on the Seinfeld thing but I will give it another look sometime as I know how hugely popular it’s always been so I think that it was probably a ‘it’s me/not you, Seinfeld…thing….

…it’s funny how we connect with certain things…series/movies etc at certain times in our lives as well, I always think though…there are times when we might watch the exact same thing but just not have the same connection because our headspace, as it were…can vary so much also, with life events…

Zizu 22-07-2024 08:52 AM

Seinfeld detractors are philistines

Simple as that,

LOL

Father Ted
My favourite episode was “When God Created Women” when the famous author Polly Clarke came to stay. The Mrs.Doyle scene where she criticises the author’s books was hilarious. :joker:
.....and the episode where the boring Priest was struck by lightning....lol

OMG

Two of my most hated tv series are Father Ted and Only Fools and Horses !!!

British sit coms are the non league to the far better written/acted/produced US sit coms who are in effect the Premier League even Champions League level

Forgive my ignorance..

I have never gotten my head around all the United Kingdom, British Isles , Great Britain malarkey ..

My point is that US comedy is far better than all of the above .

…of course, I have a huge ensemble of Irish relatives as dad was from a large family…and it was also to the extent that my mom and dad would ask me every time as well if I would have a cup of tea…even though I’d never ever accepted a cup of tea from anyone ever, I didn’t like tea at all…

That’s the whole point. They’re intentionally pretty despicable, selfish people with a distinct lack of morals, self-awareness and dignity. :joker:

I’ve finally gotten around to watching Mindhunter on Netflix. Half way through season 1.

Just… Incredible. I can’t believe they stopped after just two seasons.
