Yes but that could change, what I'm saying is maybe putin isnt so worried about sanctions because of his new alliance?

it's not in chinas interests. If the west started putting pressure on china, china would come running back to the west. China trade with russia is trivial. China needs the west, so it can't all change

The oil/gas pipelines between russia and china are already running at capacity and that is russias biigest export. In 5-10 years that might be different, but certainly not in the short-medium term

What makes you so certain? Why do they need the west. We need them more we don't make anything here anymore and European goods and services will be out of our price range now.

Because Russia don't have the money that the west have fo a start so it would take a huge hit to China and then Russia doesn't have any great exports outside of the oil/gas exports

Oliver_W 01-03-2022 07:10 PM

To be fair, this whole thing will probably be over within a couple of weeks, why should the refugees come all the way here when they can go home soon? Makes more sense for them to be nearby.

you have got to be kidding, this is going to go on for years. People seem to think its over when russia take kyiv and nothing could be further from the truth. The war will change but it will still be a war with ukranians being funded by the west. Putin can't afford to keep his troops deployed in ukraine for long, russia will never hold ukraine for any length of time

They are reliant on fuel which the world is moving away from anyway so they will really struggle in years to come

user104658 01-03-2022 07:25 PM

Advanced economies do t rely on exports, that's the point really. Manufacturing economies (like China) do... But its not as simple as "they need the west" or "we need them more"... It's currently just both. We (meaning Europe and the US - consumer economies) for better or worse have a symbiotic relation ship with manufacturing economies. We need stuff they make, they need to sell us their stuff. Swapping us out for Russia just isn't a thing... It's a population of 150 million with a 10k GDP. Europe + USA is a population of over 1 billion, with GDP's ranging from 30 - 60k. So you're really talking a marketplace 15x to 20x the size of Russia.

It's like when Brexiteers were crowing about trade deals with Australia and Canada like they were decent substitutes for the entire EU.

Even if it could hold out as an occupying force for years, we've literally just had a very clear example of what happens as soon as that stops with the Afghanistan withdrawal. As soon as the occupying force leaves the country snaps right back.

Surely they aren't mining enough to flog it worldwide? Wouldn't we keep it in our gold reserves?

thesheriff443 01-03-2022 08:31 PM

Gold as you do or don’t know comes from space .

bots 01-03-2022 08:34 PM

there are gold mine(s) in wales if i'm not mistaken. They don't produce a lot, but it can be a days entertainment

Kizzy 01-03-2022 08:47 PM

So we have a few flakes of Welsh space gold? Who would want to buy that?

"We've news of more action being taken by Apple. The tech giant has paused sales of its products in Russia, the company has announced.

The company has also limited its payments system, Apple Pay, and other services including live-traffic tracking, according to the Reuters news agency.

The BBC's Ukrainian service reports that consumers in Russia attempting to buy an iPhone, watch or MacBook on the company's website are greeted with a message saying that delivery of the goods is impossible.

The move by Apple comes after Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov disclosed earlier this week that he had sent a letter to the company's chairman Tim Cook asking that Apple be blocked from Russia."

Some will and won’t know that either because some don’t know how planets are formed.

Pretty sure everyone but creationists understand that, but fair play for attempting to educate the masses.

Since gold is at a near all time high, you don’t need a lot of gold to make a lot of money.

I’m not attempting to educate anyone.
