it's not in chinas interests. If the west started putting pressure on china, china would come running back to the west. China trade with russia is trivial. China needs the west, so it can't all change The oil/gas pipelines between russia and china are already running at capacity and that is russias biigest export. In 5-10 years that might be different, but certainly not in the short-medium term |

To be fair, this whole thing will probably be over within a couple of weeks, why should the refugees come all the way here when they can go home soon? Makes more sense for them to be nearby.

Compared to Russia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...orts_of_Russia They are reliant on fuel which the world is moving away from anyway so they will really struggle in years to come |
Advanced economies do t rely on exports, that's the point really. Manufacturing economies (like China) do... But its not as simple as "they need the west" or "we need them more"... It's currently just both. We (meaning Europe and the US - consumer economies) for better or worse have a symbiotic relation ship with manufacturing economies. We need stuff they make, they need to sell us their stuff. Swapping us out for Russia just isn't a thing... It's a population of 150 million with a 10k GDP. Europe + USA is a population of over 1 billion, with GDP's ranging from 30 - 60k. So you're really talking a marketplace 15x to 20x the size of Russia.
It's like when Brexiteers were crowing about trade deals with Australia and Canada like they were decent substitutes for the entire EU. |

"We've news of more action being taken by Apple. The tech giant has paused sales of its products in Russia, the company has announced.
The company has also limited its payments system, Apple Pay, and other services including live-traffic tracking, according to the Reuters news agency. The BBC's Ukrainian service reports that consumers in Russia attempting to buy an iPhone, watch or MacBook on the company's website are greeted with a message saying that delivery of the goods is impossible. The move by Apple comes after Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov disclosed earlier this week that he had sent a letter to the company's chairman Tim Cook asking that Apple be blocked from Russia." |
