Well you don't want to be aligned with any particular party at this stage do you?...Best to remain impartial, like me.

I get the consensus about it being a popularity contest, but that's for the host to resolve.

I felt, in retrospect last year that it was a really good positive event and everyone enjoyed it, there was no arguing, it was lovely etc. The only drawback was that people were being asked to vote (which is fine, and all part of campaigning) and just agreeing and casting said vote without even knowing what it was all about. I don't know the answer to that, but Jack's idea might well ne the path to go down.

Thoughts?

I also have to say *Kate* you organised it perfectly in my opinion, it did develop a bit of a mind of its own as it progressed but you were a great help and support to all who needed advice as to it.

The thing I really loved most was that over the whole event, there was not really a single cross word, argument or any warnings even issued despite the large differences of opinion from the parties/candidates and supporters of same.

Quite an achievement and one you should rightly be proud of Kate, as the whole thing was your idea last year.

Let's hope things go smoothly this year as well.

Meh politics is a popularity contest anyway, the personal individual is a big part of it

i was under the impression this wasn't a serious game, and was just a one-off... okay then...

there's no award for it or serious competition, it's ultimately down to a poll, so can we do away with all the butthurts and the "this has to be fair!!!" comments because it's really quite tedious

Apple202 06-03-2013 05:28 PM

i nominate jack_

Agreed. It's just a game, so it's meant to be fun. :)

Don't get where you're coming from here Shaun, I've seen nobody saying anything on the lines of "this has to be fair!!!!" or maybe I am interpreting it differently though and we see it in different contexts  I didn't even know it was being brought back till it appeared on here, although I was asked last time by quite a lot of people who really enjoyed it to do it again as an annual thing.

Shaun 06-03-2013 05:33 PM

the protests about it being a popularity contest, though

I mean, ignoring the glaringly obvious point that that's what an election is, it's just unnecessary. I remember people asking people for votes last time, and it was fine, because this really doesn't matter

Jamie. 06-03-2013 05:36 PM

Feel free to nominate me :p

I have to agree with Shaun, I posted on the first page of this thread, I was going to take part because I thought it was going to be a laugh, a bit of light hearted fun but as usual the fun gets sucked right out of everything.

yes, there's not really a viable way to get round it, so I see where you are coming from there, I also just re-read your post properly (I often skim read them - shouldn't really do that) and it's true that there is no award for this etc, I think that's why it was so much fun last time, everyone really was in good spirits for it and there was good natured rivalry, they also continued campaigning right till the end, even though the victory was clear. I loved it.

I think it will be fun, Josy. It's just a game and there's no prize.

:conf: why has it? There has been no arguing in here, everyone has listened to everyone else's thoughts and ideas and I've seen no negativity.

Who has done that then josy, bet it won't be as much butthurt as the pub quiz, didn't some get banned for not following the rules on that?
Nothing sucks the fun out of a game than folk getting banned :joker:

Excuse me? I'm not sucking the fun out of anything, or even attempting to...I was merely suggesting a few ideas as to how this could possibly be improved on and made (in a sense) more fun. There's no need to exaggerate. I quite like the idea of presenting both real life and TiBB policies, and presenting the campaigns anonymously means people will actually be basing their decisions on the policies that people have spent time devising? What's wrong with that? That sounds quite fun to me...to see who can come up with the best policies and be rewarded for doing so. That's not sucking the fun out of this at all. They were just suggestions...Christ almighty...
