It's lots of people saying that they don't really believe in religions but they they are religious, it makes no sense./

It's religious people wanting to defend religion without having to defend all of the ****ED UP **** that religious people do.

It's like how the Gap makes good T-shirts, but they also make a lot of other ****ty overpriced clothes, but at least they make a few good t-shirts so don't criticize them/

Not believing in an organised religion is the difference, that analogy is a good one It's like having a GAP t shirt... but without the GAP logo on it

Jesus loved the Jews, the rest he was probably quite indifferent about. He grew up in a time of Roman oppression and was looking out for his own people. Paul is the founder of Christianity as we know it.

This isn't a fact so stop.

... it's posts like this that give all us atheists a bad name, though. Fair enough if you're not into religion but there's no need for a condescending ironic "holier than though" attitude just because you don't believe in God.

I'm as much as an atheist as you presumably are but you should have respect for people deserving of it, regardless of their beliefs.

I wonder which god you mean or do you yourself believe in every god going?

alex post refers to religion per se and not any specific person under its spell

Why would it give us a bad name? I've seen plenty of arguments that religious conmen/terrorists/door to door preachers aren't representative of religious people in general so why should an over-the-top aggressive atheist all of a sudden paint us all in a bad light?

Crimson Dynamo 20-10-2014 05:27 PM

And of course allof us here are indeed atheist to 99.9% of gods

Obviously without splitting hairs I mean all gods. Stop being pedantic.

Hence I said 'comments like this'... I'm obviously not on about just Alex, just saying that sort of OTT aggressive atheist attitude doesn't exactly show us in a good light.

Sorry Redway but I'm not buying it. A few unsavoury people are not supposed to reflect badly on the rest as you will see posted in defence of religious nut jobs/conmen here.

So by that regard a few unsavoury people arguing in an aggressive, belittling manner should not reflect on the vast majority of atheists that just get on with things and don't get embroiled with arguing theology.

It's starting to be feel like this is a repeat of the situation I showed earlier on this thread where a poster stated that they 'hate atheists' and not one single person even bothered to take umbrage with it. The comment would have been deleted and the user banned if the word atheist had been replaced with Christian/Muslim etc.

An atheist is no belief at all, so no.
