There is no excuse for the way Helen treated him because she knew he didn't like her. You can say nothing at all to excuse it.

Its textbook bullying. The bully sensed a challenger and set upon him, which is what culminated in the last row. Devoid of any intelligent argument whatsover she goaded him repeatedly and said he looked like a murderer, rapist and a psycho.
