Sorry to be a killjoy, but no matter which way you cut or dice it, this years CBB is failing on all levels. Its become way too PC and even the producers are promoting gender issues as if its topical. Its getting hard to watch and the tasks and storylines this year are pathetic.

Tonight will be down for sure.

Silent Witness and most importantly both Benidorm and The Undateables will take viewers away from CBB. They are much more young demo friendly than last nights War and Peace and Endeavour.

Ratings so far:

Launch- 2.80m
Wednesday- 2.19m
Thursday- 2.04m
Friday- 1.9m and 1.7m
Saturday- 1.46m
Sunday- 2.09m

Any other winter cbb i would watch cbb over the undateables and benidorm but this year the series is so boring. So i'll be giving it a miss tonight and i'll be watching Undateables and benidorm instead.

I think the issues lie with how tacky its become and how they haven't bothered changing anything to improve ratings. The whole production is exactly the same, it doesn't matter how good of a cast you have, if the production is crap then the show will be crap.

sampvt 11-01-2016 12:23 PM

In this case both are crap so go figure

I think that's quite hypocritical.

Remember BB16. This is how the story went:

- Big Brother lets them get on with it, not much meddling
- The vieweing figures decline to the worst ever, at one point they were getting 800k on a non Saturday.
- People are moaning why they haven't done anything because "BB is dying"
- BB producers think up of 4 in 4 out
- Ratings increase to around 1.2m, so around 30% higher.
- People think it's unfair.
- Big Brother does Time Warp Week, ratings increase to 1.4m. Highest of the series.
- Viewers moan "WHY, can't they have just left it alone?"

So, those moaning about how dull it is, they are only giving BB the thumbs up to throw in a very annoying OTT twist like Helen Wood going back in again.

So, do people want natural rows and have it run its course, OR do people want producers to mess about with the show like they did in BB15 and BB16?

I bet if they do that, people will them exclaim "You should have left it the way it was"

It's no wonder they don't know what to do sometimes. They probably don't want to change anything because people will phone OFCOM complaining.

Also, I think people are blindsided by the ratings due to CBB13 and CBB15. This series is only down 200k-250k from CBB9 and CBB11 in the overnights. It's not a huge drop considering there are around 20% less viwwers watching TV than they were in 2012 and 2013.

Jamesy 11-01-2016 01:33 PM

While twists such as 4in4out do work to boost figures, a series such as BB16 was still under performing despite the big twists thrown into it.

Leaving things completely doesn't work these days, so that's easy to accept. Although there still needs to be a degree of the social experiment side of it. The BB14 formula worked well. A mixture of twists and meddling to keep up interest, and natural drama left to do its own thing.

This is more than about twists though. It's about the entire production, from tasks and shopping tasks, to the editing, to how the themes are conceived. I think it's a congregation of things that has caused people to loose interest, rather than one specific thing (like twists).

Saying that I don't find the ratings for this series so far anything to worry about. It's still C5s biggest puller.

It's strange because I am actually enjoying this season so much. It's one of my favourites so far without a doubt! I think with nominations and tasks coming up there's bound to be some drama and the line up in my opinion is probably the best we've seen so far... different folks different strokes I guess :)

crazycolaist 11-01-2016 02:27 PM

Season has started sluggish but I feel its about to pick up

nonstop 11-01-2016 09:11 PM

The format is beyond stale and I say this as a longtime viewer. I mostly catch-up online instead of watching live.

Cal. 11-01-2016 09:18 PM

There's just too much BB a year in my opinion.

3 weeks in January and 9 weeks over the summer is all that's needed.

We have like 16 weeks now.

Pete. 11-01-2016 09:20 PM

When Channel 5 regularly get under 1 million, I still think these ratings are pretty good

Cal. 11-01-2016 09:21 PM

But yeah these ratings aren't going to go up this series. They haven't gone up since Winston and that was all over TV/radio so I don't think they will unless something like Jeremy/Chloe happens.

Will. 12-01-2016 09:44 AM

2.1M with +1 (9.7%)

Fourth in its slot.

All with +1

Benidorm - 5.1M
Silent Witness - 6.1M
Undateables - 2M
Only Connect (BBC 2) - 2.4M

Jake. 12-01-2016 09:57 AM

Decent share I guess

*mazedsalv** 12-01-2016 10:00 AM

2.08m incl +1. At least it's stabilising above 2m. Night before it got 2.09m. And last night was very tough competition from Silent Witness, The Undateables and Benidorm who all share quite a high young audience.

Tracey Ullman's Show - 2.85m

BBC2:
University Challenge- 3.00m
Only Connect- 2.44m

ITV:

Ch4:

This to me is the least tacky CBB has been since its move to Channel 5.

Theres a lot of conversation, hardly any meddling from producers, brilliant graphics for a change.....

How is this year tackier than UK VS USA or ALL the Brian series?

Its improved immensely and gone back to much more like the Channel 4 days.

Explain to me whats tackier this year than any other.

daniel-lewis-1985 13-01-2016 12:29 AM

I have to say aswell Channel 5 has some brilliant programming at the mo I mean They got The X Files I bet Channel 4 wanted that soooooo much lol.

The new Heroes, CBB, Gotham and love the documentaries.

If this programming was on ITV and didn't have the Channel 5 stigma these shows would be huge.

Well I didn't say this year is tackier than any other series. The highlights episodes have certainly been improved from last year too so I'll agree with you there.

My points are more about how the show has been since BB15, you only need one tacky/messy series to push people away.

The only part of this series that has been tacky is the launch night. Apart from that it's only really the montages at the start of each episode that have been awful, and some of Marcus' narration. They need simplify the editing in some areas still.

For me it's the launch night that set the tone. It was a really poor production. The highlights have been improved however.

Will. 13-01-2016 09:04 AM

2.2M including +1

*mazedsalv** 13-01-2016 10:02 AM

Those ratings are wrong. It got 2.2m excl +1, Broadcast is saying 2.4m including.

Will. 13-01-2016 10:06 AM

Oh ok! Digital Spy ratings thread is wrong then!

That's really good!

Will. 13-01-2016 10:09 AM

2.43M (11%) with +1

Second in its slot! ITV fell to 1.2M with Saved!

*mazedsalv** 13-01-2016 10:15 AM

BBC One:
Silent Witness: 6.28m

BBC Two:
Victorian Bakers: 2.19m
Stargazing Live: 1.56m

ITV:
Trawlermen Tales: 2.16m
Saved: 1.25m

Channel 4:
Tricks of the Restaurant Trade: 1.65m
Travel Man: 48 Hours in...: 1.51m
Derren Brown: Pushed to the Edge: 1.14m

Channel 5:
Celebrity Big Brother: 2.43m
Secret Life of the Family: ~ 1.00m

MB. 13-01-2016 10:21 AM

Not bad :clap1: Considering how many people seem to be talking about it, it could (optimistically) reach something near the 3m mark with catch-up
