Well surely if he didnt believe he would be then it must have obviously been a jokey throw away comment. Honestly your views are doing more harm than good for gay rights etc.

How am I harming gay rights? I believe sexuality should have no basis on how you feel about a person.

You're the one supporting a man who believes a happy couple should not be allowed to adopt and give a child a happy loving home based purely on their sexuality.
