If you use the word, "Gay" and wish to pluralise the word, then you would say, "Gay people" or homosexual which is the other common term.

But it is not so serious to add an "s" to the word, "Gay", unless you are the type of person who is looking for trouble, when trouble is not even there?

nodisharmony

Correct nodis. "The gays" is unacceptable. Gay people is correct tho.
It's funny actually, but there is so many slang words and ways to describe gay people, I can't believe it?

How many can you think of Baz? which would be acceptable, which would offend? That's a hard one.

Oh dear. Time to educate yourself then young man.

Gay: Person who is gay.

"The Gays": Generalisation.
OK, but I don't understand why i can call 1 gay a gay and then, maybe 5 gays, not gays.

I'm not trying to be difficult, I just don't understand why I've offended him, but I have said sorry.

I am sure many would offend, But to refer to someone as "The Gays" may offend someone just as much as saying, well, "The English". You are generalising on people as Stropz said. People are individuals and should not be generalised.

Nick (aka Nodisharmony) said this: "How many can you think of Baz? which would be acceptable, which would offend? That's a hard one."

And I reckon that if we start discussing which words are acceptable and which ones aren't then everyone will end up with a Warning count as high as mine. Therefore I said: "Can open... worms everywhere" which refers to a well known phrase "open up a can of worms" which means "to create a situation that will cause trouble or be unpleasant."

Make sense now?

You have nothing to be concerned about, the_chosen_one.

If someone gets offended, sort it out via UTU and an edit of your own post can be made quite easily.

If you face hostility or aggression, that is different!! :cloud:

I would ask MrLuvaLuva & Stropz for advice on that score

I am not so experienced :conf:

Oh, cuz that person who was claiming to be an insider said he had nothing else to do at 10.30 at night. So, I was just making a suggestion. :spin2:

James 25-04-2007 09:54 PM

Nodisharmony, erm just some advice, I wouldn't use the word 'coloured'. Some people do find it offensive.
