One review that sticks out said it’s like the movie SE7EN took place in Gotham City, which sounds incredible. Dark and brooding.

Yes, it does sound amazing. We haven't had a truly great Batman movie since Michael Keaton played him.
With Jack Nicholson as the Joker and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Absolutely brilliant!

Interesting. There are very few live-action batman adaptations that showcase the "detective" side of the character, mainly focusing on the butt-kicking and gadgets, but it's a big part of the character. The closest to doing it is probably "Gotham" and it's not even really Batman, as Bruce Wayne is still a kid in that.

As I showed you in the Ukraine thread, it was revealed that Trump actually is the real Batman.

Out of all the people feasibly rich enough to be a "real" Batman, he's got the most recognisable lower face :joker:

Just watched it and it was brilliant!

Paul Dano as the Riddler was fantastic! If there is a sequel I want to see more of him.
Didn't recognize Colin Farrell. Great to see John Turturro there, he's one of my favourites!

Yeah I loved it! I didn't even mind the deviations from comics lore - Martha Wayne wasn't an Arkham, she was a Kane, and the sister of Batwoman's dad. Thomas had never run for Mayor, and Bruce was a bit of a playboy and man-about-town, not a recluse.

But the movie was good enough that I didn't care about any of that :D

Everyone was brilliant in their role, I especially liked Jim Gordon. I wasn't too crazy about Gollum as Albert though...

I could see Riddler being the villain in the next film - the ending of this film sort of leads into Zero Year:
Spoiler:

Riddler has taken over the city - he's shut down the power grid, caused flooding, and used Pamela Isley's (pre Poison Ivy) experiments to make swathes of the city overgrown.

He's hiding somewhere, and given the civilians a daily challenge - give him a riddle he can't answer, he'll stop.

I really want to know who was that guy next to the Riddler, in the prison

If anyone picked up the free comic they're giving away for the first few days, Long Halloween was a huge influence on The Dark Knight movie - Batman, Gordon, an.Harvey Dent working together to bring down the mafiosa crime families, ending with Dent becoming Two Face. Long Halloween has more sideshow villains though.

Payl Dano performance is definitely Oscar worthy. Hope.he gets nominated.

He's one of the best actors going, so underrated.

Everything I've seen him in - Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood, the Brian Wilson biopic, 12 Years a Slave and more - he's incredible.

Hope this role (which I've heard nothing but praise for) solidifies him as a real contender.

The Joker, as was widely speculated prior to The Batman's release, was brought to maddening life by none other than Barry Keoghan, who previously starred in Marvel's Eternals. Now, you'd think that the Joker's inclusion at the end of the film would suggest that Pattinson will square off against Keoghan in The Batman 2. Not so fast. “It’s not an Easter egg scene,” Reeves said. “It’s not one of those end credits Marvel or DC scenes where it’s going, like, ‘Hey, here’s the next movie!’ In fact, I have no idea when or if we would return to that character in the movies.”

Now, Reeves has been teasing a potential HBO Max series that would focus solely on the villains of Arkham Asylum, which he teased in the Variety interview. "There are things we’ve talked about there," he said. "So it’s very possible. It also isn’t impossible, that there is some story that comes back where Joker comes into our world.”

For now, it seems like we're meant to enjoy Keoghan's Joker cameo for what it was: a cameo. Even though Reeves brushes away the idea of the Joker's return being a sure thing, it's likely that we'll see him again in either The Batman's sequel or an HBO Max spinoff. Plus, we'd like to see more of Paul Dano's Riddler, finally out from under his (quite literally) Saran-wrapped mask. If his reintroduction is alongside the Joker? All the better.

I'd love to see The Joker being the main villain in the sequel. We will probably see other villains as well, but I think he should definitely be there.

Deleted scene - Batman meets Joker in prison:

Genuinely terrifying interpretation of Joker from Barry Keoghan. Wow.

(I’m glad it was cut from the movie though - it doesn’t add anything really story wise. I think I’ve had enough Joker for a while anyway and need some fresh baddies. Gimme a really scary Poison Ivy or something next).
