[Council tax levy
could replace TV licence fee in future funding model] [The TV licence fee could be abolished and replaced with a new levy on council tax bills, according to a House of Lords committee that looked at the best way to fund the BBC in the future. Under the proposal, all households would pay for the BBC through their local authority bill, with low-earning families paying less for the broadcaster’s services. This would end the traditional link to owning a television set and ensure that people who only use the BBC’s online or radio services also have to pay to use them. “We see quite a lot of potential advantages to it, ” said the Conservative peer Tina Stowell, who chairs the cross-party House of Lords communications and digital committee.] Yes Do It get rid of that Direct Tax. That's even more draconian than the current system.
They run and own the following - Alibi Dave Drama Eden Gold W Yesterday Some are pay channels, some on 'freeview' yet ALL have around 15 mins of ads an hour. They also sell the rights to tons of shows that we pay a license for to streaming sites. A TV license in this, or any day and age is preposterous. Just a complete scam and BBC are laughing all the way to the bank, as are all their top earners. |
Subcription-only service. Solved. I'd say no thanks. :p
|
i don't want my community charge going up by 140 or whatever a year to pay for a service i don't want. The licence fee must end full stop, not transferred to another payment bucket
|
Quote:
No as it will be Everyone in the UK it will be a lot less Better than a monthly Direct Debit |
a lot less is not zero. i want zero licence fee
|
The most revolting part is it doesn't even matter if you don't watch anything BBC related, you still HAVE to pay the BBC anyway because you watch other TV channels.

[The BBC will cut the number of programmes
it makes and consider turning more television and radio stations into archive services, according to the corporation’s director general. Tim Davie is preparing to announce deep cuts to BBC output in the coming weeks, with staff nervously wondering whether their programmes or channels will be axed. The corporation estimates it needs to find another £285m in annual savings as a result of government-imposed cuts to its budget. Davie said the era of the BBC trying to do “everything with every service” was no longer viable because it ended up spreading itself “too thin”.] Guardian Media. |
