 aww Jake. Exactly how I'm feeling right now.

Very very poignant in light of what's happened.

I was never a fan of the band but I ackowledge the massive impact their music and them as people had on the whole world.

Liam's death is beyond tragic. He had everything. Talent, looks, youth.

RIP.

Maya Henry, his former girlfriend, had made headlines with a TikTok video on Oct 6 accusing him of “disgusting” behaviour and claiming he had harassed her and her mother with repeated phone calls and messages. She reportedly issued legal proceedings against him last week, which sources said contributed to Payne feeling “extremely overwhelmed”.

In the video, she claimed that Payne had been “weaponising” his fans against her on social media and warned that there was “a lot more of this story so… stay tuned.”

Henry said: “You weaponise your own fan base. People are always saying, ‘oh, she just wants money’… I don’t need money.”

Very sad news. He had obviously been struggling for a few years but I had hoped things would get better for him. RIP Liam, thoughts are with his loved ones.

The lyrics to his last song that did not chart again (seemingly written to his ex and going by her recent lengthy tiktok about him id say so) in light of his suicide are rather sinister now

But that's not "everything" or rather - as we see time and time again - ultimately it's not anything at all.

Beyond subsistence (a good home you like to be in, being warm and fed) and preferably having the resources to not have to live with too much stress to achieve that, all that actually matters is meaningful human connection with others, and some sense of purposeful existence (or failing that, being comfortable with one non-purposeful ideology or other).

If you don't have those two things, the rest of it is wallpaper. And that can be wallpaper on a crumbling building.

You can't give another person the love they need and deserve if you don't like and understand yourself. Late 20's into early 30's is a rough time in terms of that. I feel bad for the guy he clearly had no grasp on his life at all and it completely got away from him, and of course others were drawn into that chaos with him.

Crimson Dynamo 17-10-2024 02:06 PM

I guess all the time he was wondering if they liked him or liked who he was

He was the "Gary Barlow" of the group unfortunately - a huge part of One Direction but ultimately didn't have the same solo potential as the others. He said in an interview that Simon Cowell built One Direction around him, which is probably true - it sounds like ego from him, but genuinely I think Simon Cowell (as a cynical music mogul) knew fine well that he didn't have the charisma to carry it alone. As opposed to, say, Harry Styles, who isn't particularly musically talented - but runs on pure charisma, which is what carried him through from day 1 on X factor, and exactly what a solo act needs. i.e. "Robbie Williams".

Unfortunately when the group then inevitably splits that's never going to be a good outcome for that person.

I was actually most surprised by Niall making it as a solo artist, I always thought he was the least talented of the group but his solo stuff is pretty good

Great analogy.

I recall Simon Cowell once saying that Harry Styles had the best voice and personality.. the jewel in the crown so to speak BUT Liam was the level headed , sensible and grounded one

Sad news, I heard on the radio that his current gf left him a few days ago, he was seen in the lobby being aggressive and high on drugs or alcohol, so sad for his family
