Was that a member who left soon after that? And I am not mocking anything Girth. I was making a joke with Sunny re: "Karma suit ya" as in "Karma Sutra".

OK. Point taken. It just seemed like you making fun of forum members who dont like the karma system. Among regular forum members - ie those who post at least three days a week - those who dont like the karma system seem to be in quite a high majority.

I dont know if that member has left, but I havent seen them in a long while

I think the karma system can be abused sometimes especially latley when I have seen this game of "Tag-Team" karma between a couple of members.

Precisely. I think the system is a good one but I am also aware that for admin to check may well be time consuming.

But if someone is abusing the system then they should have the right to give karma out taken away from them

Harry! 10-04-2008 04:53 PM

I actully remember having -60 for nothing.

GiRTh 10-04-2008 04:53 PM

Who was playing tag team Karma?

I think I'll keep mine on. See how long it takes me get to zero. It's only five clicks away.

I don't want to name the individuals, of course.

But it was fairly obvious that there +karma was getting consideratly higher. Especially with one of them starting off with minus karma, and then there karma increasing by a lot over a couple of days.

Indeed.
The current system is so open to abuse that I'm not sure anyone uses it properly.

Xander 10-04-2008 05:13 PM

Not sure if this has been mentioned by perhaps when you give someone a +karma or -karma you have to give a suitable reason why you gave it to them?
But then theres the time consuming job of reading all the reasons.

Well Sunny and I were not, so no need to think we were. I am aware there are problems still with karma. That is why I raised the question again almost a year after it was introduced.

Legend 10-04-2008 08:47 PM

I still share my "why do you let it remotely bother you" opinion especially as there is the option to turn it off.

I've not known anything on a forum to be blown out of proportion so much.

Mrluvaluva 10-04-2008 09:11 PM

Well some people do. And this is a vent for them to talk about it.

Legend 10-04-2008 10:02 PM

Yeah, I worked that much out. However, the fact people still complain when it was made optional to suit people, I just don't get it.

I don't really think people have a right to complain the day it turned optional. Fair enough of it weren't but it is, can't everyone get over it? :puzzled:

Dr43%er 11-04-2008 12:43 AM

"I sometimes think that certain members just deduct karma willy nilly and just for a laugh sometimes."

Those were the days. Good old Slarti.

By the way. You just said "WILLY". LOL.

I agree and I was one of those who hated at first. But I like the system now

One of you was mocking. Posting how certain members got upset when theirs was deducted.

I see I'm only 4 away from zero. Come on people it's only four clicks of the mouse. There must be forum members chomping at the bit to reduce mine. Come on, get some.

The fact is the system does not work. It's as plain and as simple as that. A year ago I was bothered but now I actually salute those who have high karma. Well done you've obviously earned it.

I still maintain that, among regular forum members, a very high majority have it turned off. What does that tell us? We should start a poll. If we did I have abolutely no doubt most people would vote that the karma system is a waste of time and thats the only point I really need to make.

Mrluvaluva 11-04-2008 02:53 PM

Oh but you have 5. Why don't you start a poll then?

Blimey. Someone added one. Thats not in the script.

If anyone started a poll it would probably be locked by the mods. There have been many karma based threads locked. Secondly, I dont think anyone would take any notice anyway. The mods have given us the option to turn it off and just about every regular forum member has used that option. That speaks volumes, that says it all..

Dan_ 11-04-2008 03:03 PM

I switched it off after only a couple weeks as I felt it was an unfair and pretty sneaky system.I doubt I'd ever turn it back on again.

They won't lock it if people talk about it rationally. Do it. I don't see what is stopping you.

To be brutally honest, I dont really care enough to actually start the poll to prove my point. I've now got mine switched on to show that. Start a thread or bump an old one and I'll post my views on the subject. Theres no point in trying to discredit the system because one, I dont see the mods actually getting rid of it and two, the fact that just about everybody has theirs turned off makes my point much better than I ever could.

EDIT: BTW I agree with Dans assessment of the system. It IS a sneaky way of taking a pop at others.

That would be me, and that would have been about a very specific banned member who made a huge deal and caused more trouble than was needed because one point was deducted. I would not say mocking more gentle poking!!

GiRTh 11-04-2008 04:02 PM

I've lost two more points. I'm just three clicks away from zero. Keep 'em coming people.
