Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is reportedly earning £139,000 a week.

The former Portsmouth man signed with the Reds for £17million in the off season but it is his salary that is causing a stir.

The weekly wage he is earning is more than Chelsea’s Ashley Cole, making him the highest paid full-back in world football.

Has to be bollox; Johnson earning 20-30k more than Gerrard and Torres?!...

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says a deal with Blackburn Rovers for Pascal Chimbonda is almost finalised.

The two clubs have agreed a fee for the French defender with the deal likely to be completed this week.

After Spurs demolished Doncaster away 5-1 in the Carling Cup, Redknapp confirmed that Chimbonda was on his way out.

"Well I sold one (a player) on the way up here, we sold Chimbonda," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"Well I think he was sold, he came up on the plane then he travelled across to Blackburn I think.

"The chairman agreed a fee with Blackburn for him so he travelled over there. I don't know if the deal has been done but certainly it's very close to being done so we ended up one short but it's not a problem.”

Bolton manager Gary Megson has launched a bid to re-sign Kevin Nolan.

The defender joined Newcastle United last season and Megson is keen to bring him back to Reebok Stadium on a season-long loan.

It is understood that Nolan’s wages are hurting Newcastle who were relegated to the Championship last season and the club is willing to offload him.

Megson wants to complete the deal prior to the Trotters home fixture against Liverpool on Saturday.

Everton manager David Moyes has admitted the club needs more signings before the end of the transfer window.

The Toffees boss recently lost key defender Joleon Lescott to Manchester City and is now intent on bringing in some new faces.

"I would be disappointed if we didn't get at least four, maybe more," Moyes told Everton's official website.

"We've made quite a bit of progress I feel and maybe I'll be able to announce something shortly, but not yet.

"The job is to try and make it (the squad) stronger every year and that's what we'll aim to do."

Stoke City have jumped in line for the services of Middlesbrough defender Robert Huth.

The German international has already been linked with Everton and Aston Villa and now the Potters have emerged as a genuine contender to land him.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis is believed to be very keen on Huth and with Middlesbrough looking to sell before the transfer window closes, a deal looks increasingly likely.

Recent reports have suggested that Stoke are pushing hard for a deal to be done.

Everton are preparing a £6m offer for Celtic midfielder Scott Brown.

The 24-year-old Scotland international was earlier this month linked with a £10m offer from Tottenham Hotspur.

It is understood that Everton had been approached by an agent offering Brown and Celtic defender Stephen McManus but said they were not interested.

However, having missed out on other targets, they are now poised to make a move after watching Brown facing Arsenal in the Champions League.

Brown, who was in the Celtic side that lost 3-1 at the Emirates on Wednesday, was bought by Celtic for £4.4m from Hibernian in 2007.

Everton and Spurs were thought to be interested in Brown at that time as Celtic beat a host of clubs, including Glasgow rivals Rangers, Bolton Wanderers, Middlesbrough and Reading, to the midfielder's signature.

Celtic reportedly turned down a £9m offer from Portsmouth in January.

But economic conditions have taken a downturn and the Scottish Premier League runners-up recently announced that their profits had halved.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp this month admitted that he rated Brown, who ended the season as the SPFA Players' Player of the Year.

However, he played down suggestions that he was interested in signing a player who was also named among 14 players on world governing body Fifa's "ones to watch in 2009" list.

Brown, who won his 17th cap in Scotland's World Cup qualifying defeat by Norway, had recovered from a disappointing first season with Celtic during which he had to cope with injury, suspension and the death of his sister.

Like Brown, McManus missed the start of this season through injury and the Celtic captain has just returned to training in time to be linked with a move away from the club.

Celtic are believed to be willing to sell the 26-year-old or allow the Scotland defender to leave on loan, with Ipswich Town thought to be leading the interested clubs.

Hate scott brown :yuk:

Johann 27-08-2009 05:21 AM

We're no doubt gonna get either Real, Juve or Inter; preferably Inter as they're the weaker of the other two. Rangers or Alkmaar would be nice though...

Out of pot three I think (hope) we'll get Besiktas/Olympiakos. Wanting to avoid the rest of the others.

Last pot, I'd take anybody BUT Wolfsburg. Surprised they're in the third pot tbh.

Draw I hope for:

ARSENAL
RANGERS
Besiktas
Urzicieni (who the ****?)

Predicted draw:

ARSENAL
Real Madrid
Stuttgart
Maccabi Haifa
