Inside Soap has alarmed me this week with news of an upcoming accident in which Liam (Rob James-Collier) is going to be seriously hurt. I'm just hoping that there'll be no scarring on that beautiful face.

Apparently he's going to take Maria (well, it just says "his girlfriend, so I'm guessing it's Maria, but you never know in Coronation Street) for a romantic trip to the Lake District, and it's here that the tragedy happens. And the consequence of it will be that the true extent of his feelings for Carla will become obvious. Yikes!

Elsewhere in Inside Soap's "2008 Yearbook," Rob James-Collier reveals that he's still a tad embarrassed by his "Sexiest Male" Inside Soap award, and that he's getting recognised in the street more often these days. He also talks about his Corrie heroes...

"I love Bill Tarmey (Jack Duckworth)," he says. "I genuinely think he's one of the greatest comedy actors I've ever seen. There are all of these amazing light touches that Bill uses in his scenes - the ad-libs and the hilarious faces."

Another of his heroes is Betty Driver (Betty Williams): "You watch her next time she's on. She'll have no more than a couple of lines in a scene, but she'll steal it off all the other actors with just a comedy reaction. It's simple, and also fantastic!"

Maybe she will change him

(The ITV Character profile said he could either go two ways, carry on as he is, or find a girl to settle him down)

Fighting talk with Corrie's Alison King
Helen Tither
6/11/2007

NEVER mind stunt doubles and fake fighting - when Alison King heard about her forthcoming fisticuffs in Coronation Street she couldn't wait to get started.

In fact, the feisty actress would rather like to have more action scenes in future. If only to get some exercise on set.

"I've got soap bloat," she laughs. "I'm bloating up - I'm not getting any exercise at the moment. Maybe it's having had no summer and eating a lot. I really need to get down the gym but there's no incentive is there?"

Of course, you couldn't really say life has been quiet on set for the 34-year-old actress since she arrived in Weatherfield as bad girl Carla Conner.

"Since she turned up with a bottle of champagne in each hand at the Underworld Christmas party - being a co-owner now of the factory - she's helped cover up the death of a Polish worker and seen hubbie Paul die in a dramatic car crash.

All change

However, things are set to get a bit more hectic in the weeks to come as her lover's ex-wife Lindsey turns up (in the form of former Footballers' Wives star Susie Amy).

Having not yet filmed the most dramatic scenes, Alison is eager not to give away any details - but reveals sultry siren Carla will be on the receiving end of a slap.

"Yes, I get slapped - which is probably everybody's dream to see Carla get a smack," she says. "I know it more or less knocks me down - I'll have to let you know how I get on!

"I always think you should do the slap for real. They always have a safety guy on set anyway. I've done a lot of action films actually - I like getting involved. I've kicked people, shot them and all kinds of things."

Jackie Chan

Before appearing on Coronation Street, Alison did indeed work on films such as martial arts movie Shanghai Nights with Jackie Chan. Although many TV fans will remember her for football drama Dream Team.

Whatever the part, you can guarantee she normally ends up playing a feisty glamorous female. Although in real life she says that's far from the truth.

"I always seem to be playing bitchy women that are a bit older than me," she ponders. "Perhaps it's because of the accent or the way I hold myself.

"But I would quite like to play somebody like me that wears baggy jeans and t-shirts, a bit of a tomboy girl. More of an action role.

"I do like to get dressed up but most of the time I'm just in flared jeans and trainers."

While Alison seems too busy filming to be too much of a party animal these days - she did used to be a regular on the Manchester party scene back in the 90s when she dated former Corrie star Phil Middlemiss. Although those days seems long gone, she says now.

New start

"It seems like another life time ago." she says. "That gap from 25 to 34 is a long time. Sometimes I meet somebody from 10 years ago and I can't remember anything."

Life has moved on for Leicester-born Alison since then - although she has been up and down for work in the city since, including a stint as the official face of Boddingtons before the factory closed down.

Nowadays she spends her time between here and London but can get recognised wherever she goes thanks to the global appeal of Corrie.

"I've been doing this game for 10 years now and been in the public eye but with Coronation Street you are in everybody's living room so the attention is more noticeable. Even if you went out in a cap and a moustache you'd get spotted.

"But, touch wood, I've not had any downsides. I just get on with everything I normally do - I'm not a glitzy person anyway so it's not really changed my life.

Friendly

"In London everyone is a bit too cool for school and doesn't bother with you. But up here people stop for a chat which is dead nice."

Making full use of that celebrity spotlight, Alison has been lending her support to a few good causes - recently fronting a campaign to raise money for charity Breast Cancer Campaign with thermal manufacturer Damart, which produced a special limited edition vest. It's a cause she says lies close to her heart.

"I said yes straight away to this campaign - because I feel I can bring it home in a way. People might not realise breast cancer hits a lot of people my age and younger.

"I'm very fortunate not to have any immediate family affected but everyone is touched by it.

Sympathy

"I had a friend who died of breast cancer in her early 40s, the most beautiful lady, and it's very hard to understand.

"So I think everyone should be breast aware. I found a lump when I was 17 or 18, it was like a little pea that went from one side to the other. I had never felt that before so I got it checked.

"They sent me to the hospital for a mammogram and to take a sample. It just turned out to be a cyst. But you know a lot of people are in denial even about little things like that."

After taking time out of her busy schedule for a campaign photoshoot, she reckons it's nose to the grindstone on set from now until Christmas - when she is planning to "curl up like a cat and hibernate for two weeks".

Although, it's not been all work and no play, as Alison did manage to find romance on set in the form of cameraman Adam Huckett.

"Yes, I've been lucky - it's wonderful," she says, giving little away, and with that it's back to the Street.

I love Corrie. :P

I've been watching this thread for a while, and so I decided to join. ATM my favorite character is Sally Webster and I felt really sorry for her yesterday. I wonder where this John Stape and Rosie Webster storyline will go.

I like Eileen as well. :spin:

Yeah Sarah is leaving Christmas day :(

Ellis 06-11-2007 09:29 PM

Aww that will be sad. She's been in it for years now. :bawling:

Oh well, it will make David happy although I've completely gone off him since he ruined her wedding though.

Little b@stard!

Scarlett. 06-11-2007 09:31 PM

LOL

It was funny yesterday when he burned her wedding dress though!

Ellis 06-11-2007 09:35 PM

LoL, I laughed.

It was so funny with David in between them both arguing.

And thanks for the welcome btw. I've been watching this thread for a while and I thought you all seem nice, so I thought I'd join. I love Corrie, it's the only programme I've always watched. :dog:

Scarlett. 06-11-2007 09:37 PM

Yay:hello: We lost a member though, cepb wont be coming back sadly, so its good to get another

it 10 days they will be filming Sarah's exit on Christmas day, I hope its like Karen's exit

Ellis 06-11-2007 09:41 PM

LoL yeah, she might leave in the snow in a taxi.

Another generic Corrie exit. :D

Scarlett. 06-11-2007 09:44 PM

an iconic one though, with a classic christmas song being played by a band outside the Rovers, and when Karen reached the cab, they switched to playing "Coronation Street"

Ellis 06-11-2007 09:45 PM

Very unusual. Christmas of what year was that? Do you know?

You seem to be a Corrie Info Bank (from what I've seen of the thread).

Scarlett. 06-11-2007 09:47 PM

2004 :D

It was a great one though

I hope they put snow on the Street this Christmas too!

Ellis 06-11-2007 09:50 PM

It must be really expensive to do that, but it would be another special Xmas if they did. =]

Lets hope something amazing happens this Chritsmas.

I know Vernon and Lizz are supposed to marry soon, when is that do you know? I stay off Corrie Blogs so I have no idea.
