I loved it! I don't think it can really be judged as a standalone though, and we'll have to see how the next two epsiodes pan out.

Headie 20-05-2017 09:21 PM

This was my least fave episode of the series so far, hope it picks up again soon as the first few episodes have been great

Nardole/Matt Lucas is really annoying imo

Scarlett. 20-05-2017 10:41 PM

I really liked this episode, felt like an older Moffat episode, hope the next two keep it up. Also felt a bit RTD with the modern day stuff.

Marsh. 20-05-2017 10:59 PM

The highlight was Missy as always.

Marsh. 20-05-2017 11:38 PM

More silliness. Felt like the ridiculous episodes with the Silence again. Even down to an Oval Office set.

user104658 21-05-2017 12:25 AM

Doesn't he look tired...

Marsh. 21-05-2017 12:31 AM

:oh:

user104658 21-05-2017 09:22 AM

The central concept of this episode was awfully similar to "The Framework" in Agents of SHIELD

user104658 21-05-2017 03:30 PM

"Evolution of the Daleks"

The human-dalek with the New York accent.

...... ... Hilarious :joker:

Can't say I especially understood what was going on there. With the ratings the way they are, the last thing they needed was a convulated mess on an episode.

I hated so many episodes in series 3 at the time but after rewatching a few weeks ago I didn't hate it half as much. It was kind of good? :worry:

Or maybe the current show is making me very nostalgic.

Some powerful alien race had been making virtual reality "copies" of the world, including the doctor, to practice invading over and over before doing it for real. It's implied that they've run these simulations dozens, maybe hundreds of times. But this time the virtual reality copy of the doctor realised he could send a message to himself in the real world via his "blind glasses" to warn the real world about the real incoming invasion.

The Missy execution stuff was all just "flashbacks" in the real world. Though I don't think they made it quite clear enough that these storyline were separate and unrelated.

But I didn't find it as convoluted as a lot of previous storyline tbf.

Ah. That's a clever idea.

I have deduced that the end of S2 / start of S3 is where their budget seems to have improved at least. It's where there's a sudden switch to more high concept stuff, instead of the S1/most of 2 "We can go anywhere in space and time!... so long as it's London and between 1960 and 2010"

But yeah I've been quite enjoying S3. I also prefer Martha to Billie Piper tbh, having just rewatched the Rose seasons I actually found her really irritating.

Marsh. 21-05-2017 07:01 PM

I think she's great with Eccleston in series 1. It's the soppiness that bogs down a lot of series 2. The same thing that lets Martha down at times.

Martha just seems to be after a bit of Tennant cock from the second she sees him and gets a bit bunny boilerish when he mentions Rose in like... the second episode. It's a bit much. Calm down Martha.

Braden 21-05-2017 07:05 PM

Rose being pissed off that The Doctor offered Mickey the chance to travel with them full-time>>>>>

I kind of like Martha's role, in the fact that she was always second-best in terms of family-life and The Doctor but then

Spoiler:

ended up saving the world in the final episode

Marsh. 21-05-2017 07:19 PM

The companion always does that in the finale of the first 5 series.

Apart from rose who gets herself stuck at the end of 2. Lmao

Marsh. 21-05-2017 07:20 PM

The missy flashback confused matters unnecessarily. Good to see her but that could've just been left for the episode where they actually focussed on the Vault and Missy.

Seemed to be there to reveal she was inside just for the sake of it.

I enjoyed his last two seasons but I'm not sure this time. Like I said... doesn't he look tired? Though maybe he's supposed to I guess, getting "weary", been in this body too long, etc.

He's just starting to seem a bit sort of frail :worry:.

user104658 21-05-2017 08:33 PM

I think the episodes themselves / the writing has been great, though.

Tom4784 21-05-2017 08:54 PM

It was...okay I guess. Not the strongest of starts for a three parter.

Marsh. 21-05-2017 09:56 PM

A three parter? I didn't even realise
