I predict that the denial will be very strong in here from the Labour side after the general election. Just as strong as it's turning out to be in the local elections.

The real reason for brexit....

'The UN is to carry out a major investigation into the Conservative government. After numerous complaints were made, it will be reporting on concerns surrounding Britain’s human rights record, the impact of austerity, poverty, mass surveillance, racism, and press freedom. But no UK mainstream media outlets appear to be reporting this potentially damning investigation.

The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is carrying out its periodic review of the UK’s commitment to international human rights law. So it asked hundreds of campaign groups, charities and organisations to submit evidence [pdf p13]. And the complaints made by these bodies are damning.

The Tories: a damning assessment

They include [pdf]:

That the UK leaving the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) would “undermine” and “erode” human rights. And that it would also pose a “threat” to previous UN rulings in this area.
That, after the EU referendum, ethnicity-related hate crime rose 57%.
Overcrowding in prisons.
Cuts to legal aid.
“Very little” action on tackling human trafficking.
The UK government’s failure to address the “pervasive” issue of violence against women and girls.
Gender inequality.
A failure to tackle child poverty.'

Yeah, that'll be the real reason. The Canary had the answer allllll the time.

When will the UN turn its attention to backward African countries, murdering and maiming each other? Their governments robbing their own treasuries to make sure everyone has a new AK? If there was any truth in this story I would urge the UN to turn its attentions to where it's most needed and stop ****ing about.

Seems they aren't the only ones that should be investigated - namely the EU and their accounts!

Probably when those countries become UN members and therefore duty bound to adhere to UN standards. Just a thought. Though we'll probably be "Brexiting" the UN next anyway. With the end goal, obviously, being to Brexit planet earth and float off into space with our fish 'n' chips.

Don't you find it rather hypocritical that a humanitarian organisation will only help victims of abuse and inhumane treatment if their country is a member of a club?

Oh yeah, haha... so funny.

The UN should be intervening in places where peacekeeping is needed, rather than meddling in democratic countries while Africa and the Middle East burn.

I personally feel like it would be abhorrent for the UN to be intervening in the affairs of other countries if it CAN'T even hold its own member countries to account.

As a civilised democratic country it begs the question why we need investigating in the first instance... Why can't our govt abide by the standards they set? ( Human rights)

Remember this Government, or the one we will have if people vote for the Tories, want to censor what you can see and what you can say on the internet and on social media.

In addition to this they would like to keep records of all the things you do on-line. Currently there is a European court ruling that basically says that invades the peoples basic human right to privacy.

After the recent terror attacks there is now talk of further regulation. We are drifting in a world where there is a real big brother watching everything you say and do online and on your phone.

As soon as we leave the EU we will lose any protection provided by the EU courts.

The woman hasn't even officially formed a government yet, and she's about to traipse over to Europe to begin negotiating our departure from the EU.

She called this vanity election to 'strengthen her hand' - as if any EU leader gave a flying **** about the size of her parliamentary majority - and now she's been humiliated. She will be a laughing stock, and I find that delicious.

Kizzy 15-06-2017 07:31 PM

What is she doing stalling for time in the hope we'll forget she hasn't actually formed a fully functioning coalition?....

The New Yorker has written a very funny Biblical style version of the recent General Election. This satirical piece is very good.

The book of Jeremy!

And it came to pass, in the land of Britain, that the High Priestess went unto the people and said, Behold, I bring ye tidings of great joy. For on the eighth day of the sixth month there shall be a general election.

And the people said, Not another one.

And they waxed wroth against the High Priestess and said, Didst thou not sware, even unto seven times, that thou wouldst not call a snap election?
And the High Priestess said, I know, I know. But Brexit is come upon us, and I must go into battle against the tribes of France, Germany, and sundry other holiday destinations. And I must put on the armor of a strong majority in the people’s house. Therefore go ye out and vote.

And there came from the temple pollsters, who said, Surely this woman will flourish. For her enemy is as grass; she cutteth him down. He is as straw in the wind, and he will blow away. And the trumpet of her triumph shall sound in all the land.

And the High Priestess said, Piece of cake.

And there came from the same country a prophet, whose name was Jeremy. His beard was as the pelt of beasts, and his raiments were not of the finest. And he cried aloud in the wilderness and said, Behold, I bring you hope.

Next year's Queen's Speech is being ditched by the Government to give MPs and peers more time to scrutinise Brexit legislation.

This is exactly the kind of OTT hero worship dramatics that will probably ruin him. How can anyone take seriously those that see a politician as a god. And before anyone tries to excuse it as humour - hence the expression that 'many a true word is said in jest'.

Lighten up why don't you! its merely a bit of fun in tough times and although I didn't expect you to find it funny, I did and that's why I shared it.

You really do need to stop feeling so easily offended because its becoming tedious.
