Ohh hang on, Unforgotten isn't a true life thing, it's a series about cold cases, fictional ones :p

They do solve them but they start off as cold cases, each series is 6 episodes and focuses on one old case

…ahh ok, I got you now…I obviously had just caught onto the cold case bit and assumed they were real cases…like the Unsolved series…?…but that still sounds cool and something I’d like so I’ll give the first one a watch…

…oh, thank you so much……I’ll try to watch that this evening…also, bots reminded me that I wanted to watch Local Hero, which was set in Scotland, I think…a search said that it was on Apple plus but it isn’t…it’s only on Amazon Prime that I can see but it’s a pay for one and charging £3.49…I hate when they do that with older movies…

Yeah, you'd think they'd just allow people to watch older movies at this point

…I loved this……I loved the mom and dad, well all of the characters…who strangely felt quite familiar in some ways as well, it felt as though I knew similar characters…not that storyline but the family were so likeable and Dessie’s relationship with his family and love for his family was a joy…there was only one thing ….
Spoiler:

…obviously the scene which showed her with George and how drunk she was, this very young girl who could have been his daughter…and how eagerly this ‘father figure’ abused that situation ….obviously that wasn’t good to watch…
….I’m also now addicted to the Lick the Tins version of I Can’t Help Falling in Love….

Ammi 24-04-2024 07:12 AM

…thank you for that, though……I just need to find Local Hero to watch, now…

Spoiler:

Yes, I mean it was of it's time but nowadays we'd be calling that rape. That aside, it's such a funny film and Dessie absolutely steals the show

The film is actually an adaption of a tirlogy of books by Roddy Doyle called the Barrystown Trilogy, they're not exactly sequels about the same people but they're all centered around the same area. The Commitments and The Van are the other two, they're both very good as well (you may have seen the Commitments? the was the most famous of the 3)

…yeah, I know the Commitments movie/story…I didn’t realise it was part of a trilogy…

The Van is the lesser known of them all but Colm Meaney is the main character again (although not playing Dessie) it's also very good

Ammi 24-04-2024 09:24 AM

Spoiler:

….a funny line/bit right at the end was when Dessie was in the pub and celebrating ‘7lb 12oz’ and the old guy says…was it a baby or a turkey…?…when Dessie said it’s a baby/ahhh, that’s a grand size baby….small turkey, though….…I just love that kind of wholesome humour….some of it wasn’t so wholesome and I liked that as well……

…I’ll look out for that as well…although Colm Meaney is excellent, I thought all of the casting was perfect….

Niamh. 24-04-2024 09:27 AM

It's on Youtube too, no pressure to watch it, just saying!

…I will watch it later……it won’t matter if I don’t rewatch the Commitments in between, that’s not necessary…?….

…yeah, it was of it’s time but it’s that he kept her underwear as well so that he could ‘brag’ and had a ‘souvenir ’…I found that all very difficult…

No they're all stand alone stories, just set in the same area is all

Spoiler:

And I think they probably dealt with him/his character as harshly as he could have been dealt with at the time, it just wasn't considered sexual assault or rape back then (horribly and wrongly) him being made out as a sleazy pervert was about as much as he could get

Spoiler:

…yeah, it was dealt with well, I have to say…because even ‘of its time’, it didn’t portray that behaviour and those actions from George as being any acceptable thing, it was shown as him being perverted…I mean, Dessie wasn’t that man…it was very specific at being that one older guy…what was nice, I thought…is how much mindsets had actually moved on…(…I’m thinking about mindsets and judgement with things like the Magdalene Laundries…)…and how accepting the family and outer community were with single motherhood…the judgement being laid was that it was that older pervert, George…and even now in these times…?…there would be some judgement in Sharon also for being a victim….on social media etc…we see similar stuff often, that older guy just couldn’t help himself, poor thing……
