Hate to say it, but Gerrard is finished - he was woeful out there. Rodgers ******ed up changing the formation around to play Suarez and Sturridge together.

But a 442 with Gerrard in the centre was suicide - then he stood back and watched Villa walk through a non-existent midfield for half an hour. Gerrard should have been taken off at h/t, and replaced, not Coutinho who was equally bad as well, but against a tight defence, he'll always create space and pick out a pass at some point.

Sturridge and Suarez play better together as part of a 3 - and at times they were too close together to really create anything. If Lucas is injured for a while, then we're ****ed as we don't have another DM, and our defence is bad enough with one.

Locke. 18-01-2014 06:51 PM

Have been saying all week that it should have been Coutinho dropped to bring Sturridge back into the side. It's been proven time and time again that we will get absolutely murdered in midfield if Lucas doesn't play, and was again in the first half today. Defensively terrible again but we already knew that before kick off.. Please be available next week Sakho

Time for young Jenkinson to stand up and lead us out to glory in the World Cup then

Yeah, Johnson was dreadful yet again. He needs replacing in the summer - he earns over £100k/wk. Our youth team must be pretty bad if we don't have anyone at the club who can play left back better than Cissokho. He's an absolute liability and forces the central defenders constantly wide to cover his full back duties - when they struggle with their own defensive duties.

I'm glad Rodgers doesn't play like his mentor, Mourinho, but it's concerning that he worked with him, and has absolutely no idea how to set up a defence.

That said, today was shocking at times, but it's good to be enjoying watching the team. It's always mental, and as a fan of a team that can't win any of the big 2, then what more can you ask than football being fun? Trying to scrape out 1-0's is s**t. I'm glad we're a crazy team rather than one that tries to keep it tight.

You could learn much from the Tony Pulis philosophy of football

King Gizzard 18-01-2014 07:10 PM

Not that I care about it because I don't really but can't believe the SNF panel are saying it was a penalty when it was a proper dive

MTVN 18-01-2014 07:11 PM

Savage and Fletch on 606 both thought it was a pen as well

King Gizzard 18-01-2014 07:13 PM

Savage would

Mr Lineker agrees

It was a penalty to be fair.

Robinson is our best young left back.. out on loan though. Surprised we haven't been playing Johnson LB and Kelly RB like we used to.. Brendan really must not rate Kelly (who was much better than Johnson before his injury)

Jesus. 18-01-2014 07:22 PM

And we should have had a penalty in the first few minutes when the villa player elbowed it out for a corner.

I think it's because Kelly hasn't got any ability going forward, and is prone to looking a bit cumbersome. Because our full backs are basically wingers, he can't get back to defend.

He's also mid-20's and hasn't really developed in his years here, so I think he'll be off in summer. Flanners has the LB position when he gets back - he was playing supremely when he was in.

I'd kill for a finnan or an Arbeloa right about now. The biggest concern is the change in approach from quick passing, pressing and high tempo to accommodate Gerrard.

If he's going to start Gerrard, he needs to play him as one of the front 3, or he can use him in midfield to come off the bench for half an hour, and produce displays he's capable of, but not for 90 minutes.

Good result. At least we won't be 8 points off tomorrow.

Where's the vine of the villa players smashing knees and elbows into Suarez, and going unpunished?

Picking out one decision to claim you were robbed is pretty small time.

Guzan gets nowhere near him, unsporting dive is what it was.

His right hand makes contact with LS's left foot. You see it clearly in that vine.

I don't remember this much fuss when Suarez was basically kicked in the chelsea match? All the conversation was then, was how he dived - because that's what Jose said.

John Cross is a bitter gooner who was made to look stupid in the summer because he claimed the Suarez to Arsenal transfer was a done deal. Until it wasn't. So there's no need to look to closely into his motives.

Like I said above, the keeper shouldn't have dived in like that. All keepers do it, and it costs the team a penalty in most cases.

Lets have the Villa player handballing it out for a corner on a vine. That was at 0-0 as well.

MTVN 19-01-2014 09:30 AM

tbf when a keeper mistimes his dive like that and lunges in at the players feet when the ball's been knocked past him its always gonna be a penalty

BBfanUSA 19-01-2014 12:00 PM

Given Suarez' past and looking at that multiple times, I think that's not a penalty

Brother Leon 19-01-2014 12:30 PM

It's a dive. Simple as. If it was Ashkey Young all these Liverpool fans would be crucifying him and saying how he's killing football as they always do.

Locke. 19-01-2014 12:32 PM

Just can't believe Guzan would try and hurt Luis like that

Ashley young throws his legs at weird angles in front of people, Luis waits for contact and uses it - the same way Rooney always does, and no one makes him out to be a diver.
