Much better headlines there showing decency and more respect.

Far better than the images of the ugly, destructively violent moronic rioters.
Along with the destruction they wreaked on communities.

Just get more and more of them locked away.

I think a group with a certain mindset who deeply believed themselves to be "the silent majority" discovered that in this case, they were absolutely not. As soon as the illusion of safety in numbers was shattered most scurried back under the rug.

I think as well the idea that 3 people who were walking the streets on Saturday are now locked up for 3 years or so, no bail, no waiting for a court date, go straight to jail monopoly style will have impacted as well

Ammi 08-08-2024 07:53 AM

…I’m not sure this will be the end of it, as it were…because what remains is that So much in the way of public services etc have been eroded by our governments and their failure to address or invest…so while that continues…(…which it will…)…it leaves that ‘persuasion’ that it’s immigration related and responsible and the government scream now but they allow that redirection onto immigration because it serves themselves to do so …anyway, though…these riots were led and incited by a different beast of hate entirely…

Yes a clear illustration of "many does not mean *most*", which is something people really struggle with these days, the illusion of scale. I think it's an Internet issue really. Because the whole world is interconnected, huge groups of millions of like minded people can come together, and that swell of people makes them all think "wow, everyone else thinks this too!"

But in a world of 6 billion, a million people is niche.

well I would hope the government will now get on with the job of processing the asylum claims, and being seen to clamp down on illegal entry, that will take some of the heat out of it

…I’m not sure that it will ‘take the heat out of it’ because the violence/destruction of the rioting wasn’t about immigration imo…any more than it was about the heinous slaughter in Southport…from the very first ‘attack’ it was attacking an established mosque so it was very much representing a completely different beast to any immigration concerns etc…

https://x.com/MahyarTousi/status/182...XcrrVTAEQ&s=19 Who is telling people that 100 protests are planned? It's causing havoc and last night no one came.

That's true that immigration will remain a major issue for whatever reason but ultimately most people don't want to be violent and don't want to be locked up so there will be a retreat from too much violent disorder

The police were saying 70% of people arrested so far already had criminal records which is quite revealing

We can only hope !!

We are very close to Bolton ( thankfully surrounded by glorious countryside) but we had police helicopters overhead last night and some kind of sirens at 3 am

I feared the worst but have heard nothing thus far ..

The snag is that it there’s an awful lot of damage been done ( not just property) so it could all kick off again at the slightest thing , I fear

…I was reading, though…(…only briefly I have to say/I only skimmed it…)…an article of how Tommy Robinson is becoming ‘mainstream’ and that definitely a concern…actually I’m not sure that I didn’t mislead with my wording, I’m a bit off kilter today…the issue with services…’not getting GP appointments…’…etc, is a real issue, I feel…but it’s not an ‘immigrant’ issue, it’s the stripping back of governments on all services…schools have been feeling that for going into decades…and while those things aren’t being addressed as a priority for governments then their complicit surely in the allowance of it being diverted in that direction…and then they’ll scream, this is not acceptable…!!!!….while still not addressing the erosion of public services ….

Yep like I said they don't need ai technology to identify people in videos - most of the worst offenders will be known to local police. "Ahh that's Stabby Jim and his brother Dave".

Middle aged men who start smashing stuff up and getting in fights have rarely picked it up as a brand new hobby.

And the Football is starting back up soon.

These people care about their favourite Football teams more than any Political opinions that they might hold, thankfully in this case as it might stop the attacks.
