Britney's downfall started once she got married for about 55 hours. That's when people started to stop seeing her as the "100% American virgin pure girl". She became more of a selling product for tabloids than anything else.

No she isn't. Her popularity peaked with her first album and has been downhill since then. She had massive popularity, now shes still popular in some countries, but her star is fading in a lot of others with the UK being one of them.

And arguably, her first single was a gimmick (the whole schoolgirl thing)

And Gaga doesn't court the tabloids? You think she wears gimp masks and kermit the frog outfits because it's 'art'? She wears them because she knows it'll get the press/people talking. She's an attention ***** and I think everyone knows that. Where would she be right now if she wasn't wearing weird outfits or relying on ridiculous gimmicks to get noticed? She originally flopped when she was very toned down. That's the Gaga I liked. The moment 'Just Dance' took off she changed. When you look at summer 2008 Gaga compared to fall 2009 Gaga, you see a difference. I think it's highly ironic she sings about the effects of fame, when really it moulded her into a completely different person.

Gaga may write her music, but do the press like to discuss that? No, they choose to discuss her image, which is what she's known for. They don't discuss how amazing her music is, it's what silly, ridiculous outfit she's stepped out in this week. And what will happen to her when no one cares anymore?

One day she will run out of new ideas. She can't continually reinvent herself without there being any repetition. Her music is nothing great either. It's all been done before and much better as well. She'll slowly fade out from under the limelight, because all that she has going for her is her "shock value". One day people won't be shocked any more...
