actually according to wikipedia (Yes, i know that it isn't trustworthy) that they get paid 1 million every year for the 5 year contract.

That doesn't make any sense. They should get paid by the album. What if the winner, flops? The label won't be making any money off that artist, yet still paying her/him 1 mil every year?

Yeah, I don't see any of these remaining lasting 5 years in the music industry. I do think they'll get publicity from the back of the show and sell well with their first album and hopefully they'll be promoted in the UK next year as well... doubt it very much, but we'll see.
