She doesn't have a criminal record, she wasn't prosecuted for the theft and I think was only cautioned for the "assault" (which, let's face it, sounds like little more than a teenage cat-fight).

The US are very strict in drugs, it was indeed probably a minor drugs offense (possession of class B [cannabis] most likely), which is hardly crime of the century, who hasn't smoked a little weed in their youth? But anyway... The answer is, if they win, they will be "celebrities" and so the US will almost certainly grant him a Visa as an exception. Celebrities are "special", didn't you know, and don't have to follow the same rules as us mere mortals. Lots of celebs have records with assaults and minor drugs charges and yet magically seem to be immune from Visa restrictions.

because it's a contemporary issue, we want squeaky clean contestants not criminals.

I dont think criminal records matter too much in general..especially if it was ages ago and not a serious offense (eg smoking pot, bar fight)

But if the activity is still going on while the show is being filmed, theres a problem

..however she does in the competition, I think this will have turned her life around anyway and I hope the media/public will let her to put all the bad stuff behind her...
