Growing up in the sticks, I used to get pretty much hammered all weekends and often in the week too, and this was when we had school, and it's not really a major issue. Getting drunk is part of growing up for some people and something others don't agree with. My niece once phoned my sister up to come and pick her up from a party because they were drinking and smoking, and she didn't want to be a part of it.

So do what you like growing up, because you soon have to join the real world. The only thing I do find cringey about the drinking on here, is the egging on of the younger posters to drink by some of the older ones, and also the terrible "I'm drunk haha loik it me, cna't spelling" posts you see.

But live your life, you will never ever be in a position to drink as much again in your life and cope with hangovers better than you can now. I can't even really drink that much these days because the hangovers I get are so extreme.

Agreed. A night on the pop now takes me a good week to recover from..

I think there's a much bigger line between drinking regularly and alcoholism than people often make out, having a drink in the evening or having a night out every weekend is a world away from alcohol dependence. Going out every weekend is pretty standard behaviour across most of the world, don't why it's being treated as that outrageous. For some people like university students, particularly first years, one night out a week might even be on the conservative side.

I used to get hammered every weekend back in the day, but I lived away from home since I was 17, and I never did it when I went back home because I knew it would worry the life out of my Mom and it wasn't worth her disapproval

like Jesus the hangovers are not worth the effort now.

you make some good points but go into any a and e on weekend and see the results of getting smashed just once a week, or with the police and see the fights and crimes caused by drink.

this conversation started on the back of someone moving out of their family home, do I think drink played a part in that yes.

Yeah can we not turn this thread into some serious debate about being alcoholics, make a new thread over there for that.

reece has said it had nothing to do with alcohol so let's stop assuming shall we and give him the benefit of the doubt.

Alcohol does not make you big or clever but it does sometimes let you lure attractive people home with you :dazzler:

In all seriousness though I hope things calm down at home soon Reece, whatever's wrong will sort itself out!

As for the debate about alcohol - well Reece only recently turned 18 so of course it's normal to want to go out all the time and see what all the fuss is about! Even if someone's going out every weekend I don't think that really equates to a drinking problem - I go through phases of going out every weekend and phases of not going out for months at a time, it just depends on so many different factors. The difference I suppose is that I handle alcohol well; I don't turn violent or emotional or lose control of my motor functions like some people do. If I did, I don't think I would drink. I think 'drinking problem' is only reserved for people who 1) don't know their limit and/or 2) can't function without a drink on a very regular basis. Going to a night club once a week isn't the same as being down a pub every night of the week.
