Negotiations weren't expected until just before bbuk though

Last time they renewed it was 2 months after CBB15 or something. I can't see them announcing the end midway through a series when there's then still another 2 series to go, because anything could happen

They announced bb was cancelled during bb10 before a cbb and bb11 so....

From the Daily Mail article:

"The Daily Star report that Channel 5 are set to 'pull the plug' on the show, which started out on Channel 4 before making the move in 2011.

Insiders claim dwindling ratings and a lost interest in the show due to rival successful shows such as the widely-popular Love Island means the programme is 'just not worth the price tag' for the channel.

The 21st series of Celebrity Big Brother is currently on air - however news surfaced that this could be one of the last.

Show insiders told the publication: 'There have been conversations between the execs about not renewing the contract for both Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother. It would be the end of an era but they feel the time is right to end.

'There is still time for the bosses at Channel 5 to change their mind but it is not looking likely. Even if they drop it, another channel or a streaming service may decide to pick it up in the future.'

seems like all the articles are just using the Daily Star article as the source for their claim

I can only assume the mention of a streaming service potentially picking it up is because Hayu still exists

MB. 21-01-2018 12:21 AM

(...does Hayu still exist? I'm so out of touch)

CBB21 has 5 characters. Big Brother 5 finished on August 6th 2004. 2004 + 6 = 2008. Big Brother was cancelled on Channel 4 in 2010. 2008 + 10 = 2018. Big Brother will be cancelled in 2018.

If I were Channel 4 i'd pick the show up. Back when it was on that channel, it was a huge selling point for their channel. Since then they're one of the only channels that don't really have a selling point show. Be honest with yourself, do you really care about that many shows on Channel 4? And if you do, are they even that popular to begin with? I feel like this amount of years without the show means they might very well have the right timing to get it its footing again

pontyboi 21-01-2018 12:23 AM

I'm here for an online big brother but it would have to have live feed.

I just can't see it. Why would they want a show back that they wanted to get rid of? It's had its run. What other reality TV show has aired for 18 years? I think we're extremely lucky that we got what we got. End of an era </3

BB was their flagship show, but now they have Gogglebox and Bake Off. I just can't see them spending millions to get it back.

Does anyone actually watch Channel 4 now though like honestly

I don't really agree.. I think they've spent these past seven-odd years carving out their post-BB brand, and I think they've done pretty well. I mean, in terms of non-scripted shows, they've got Gogglebox, First Dates, The Last Leg, The Undateables etc, and on E4 there's Made in Chelsea and Celebs Go Dating. Granted, none of them are as massive as BB was in its heyday, but I think they've found a roster of shows which work well for them as a channel that prides itself on producing diverse and (somewhat) intellectual reality TV. They don't want or need BB.

I only watch Hunted and The Island out of that list and that's when me mam has it on. I'm NOT ashamed to admit that I wartched that rich kid documentary!

I hope "In Therapy" becomes Channel 5's flagship show
