If you want that, use the over 18s social group. james is a bit worried as advertisers were not impressed with some things posted on here and had to go through deleting some older stuff, so we have to be more careful.

However overall I figure it would probably be used more than some of the existing forums. Also agree with the drag race forum being basically this anyway :D

Honestly, if I had my way half of the existing subforums would be gone, serious debates would be separated from news+celeb and the subforums menu would be cleaned up a bit. Along with agreeing with the competition suggested for a new forum skin, which could be LGBT themed anyway (would be pretty at least) and a few other changes, including removal of the swear filter and huge changes to the infraction system as its clearly not working properly, and possibly some kind of donation thing where those who donate would get certain privileges (which was actually James' idea to help with the server costs if advertisers pull out but I haven't seen it mentioned again since then).

Alas, its not my forum. So this post is probably pointless except for being a bit of a rant.

Vicky's getting no votes from me until she explains the cum guzzling comment. :nono:

Also why is an LGBT subforum being turned into a chat thread-inspired sex fest with all kinds of mucky talk. A bit homophobic to make such assumptions?

I thought it meant just a place to put all of the LGBT based discussion and news stories/debates.

Exactly.
Surprising amount of hostility in the poll and the thread. Apparently a LGBT space is going to divide the forum. Some straights seem to know better what we need. Plus ça change...

Not really, LT... I have seen more threads created by other members than I have your "club". But because they don't adhere to your interests, in your opinion, they don't have a place on the forum.

The forum should really work towards trying to make Serious Debates a platform where anybody can contribute to any discussion. I don't think minorities are represented enough in that section.

Who is stopping anyone from posting in SD? SD has become the whipping boy of TIBB, the truth is most if the people who don’t post in SD aren’t interested in politics, and that is the reason they don’t post, not because they are ‘terrified’, I don’t even know why SD it being dragged into this, if a post goes up that interests the LGBT members they post in numbers its as simple as that. If we are talking about being welcoming, how come when TiBB was going strong there had to be two chat threads to cater for different groups, people in glass houses etc ...the bottom line is admin make the decisions so blaming the ‘knitting club’ is disingeneous at best

You first thread in SD will be most welcome Ashley

This is actually a good point. We're a forum that is going to appeal to a higher proportion of LGBT people than would be usual (which we know from the current user base), purely as a business decision, everything else aside, does it not make sense to take advantage of that? Make it more appealing to join and start posting to the types of user who might come across it? Those people aren't necessarily going to know the ins and outs of all the different sections and where LGBT topics might get discussed, and at a quick scan over the forum seeing 'LGBT forum' for a lot of people is going to generate far more interest than seeing 'serious debates' (not knocking SD but I think that's just being realistic). I think we're thinking of it too much from our point of view as existing members and what we're used to on here, and if it's 'necessary' - but even that I think misses the point, it isn't necessary at all. But it doesn't have to be necessary it just has to be something that would create more activity/interest and make it more appealing to new members, and at a time where the USP of the site is a dying RTV show that's something we should all want and something we would all benefit from as users of the site, whether you're LGBT or not.
I don't think it would create divides... it's a possibility I suppose, but do we all have to be united? I don't know, I'm not really sure what's meant by creating divides tbh as we're all so different and divided on many topics and discussions as it is and I kinda see that as a good thing. I also don't think it would be sex talk  sexuality isn't sex, and gender's a huge issue right now so there's no shortage of topics.
Anyway like I said I don't actually think it's necessary and it wouldn't change the forum much for me, instead I think it's greatest benefit would be in marketing the forum to new users (and generating more usage from current members), but that's justification enough for it imo.

Interesting points there from Jamie

I think it could be an interesting addition even though I'm already banned from there apparently [emoji23]

I think we should make it and then see just how well its populated as i think many may have an idea how it will develop..

and why not?
these spaces are in addition to the use of the whole forum
it's not as if we don't create spaces for specific interests, a space for women or lgbt is not really that much different

Well it's not up to me but I do think it could be a fun addition to the forum the only issue I see so far is people seem to have very different ideas of what it should be.

Because thats pretty much what was suggested immediately. Talk of anal sex and other such stuff.

I find it homophobic/transphobic to assume that all lgbt think alike and would agree on all topics tbh. And biphobic (is that a thing?) to be telling bisexual people that they are straight in order to try and make a point. But yeah.

Well yes, thats what it would be. Though debates are apparently not welcome..only positive posts D:

Anyway, stepping back from this thread now but yeah, am fine with the idea of this but as I said all sex talk would still need to go in the over 18s section and we would not be making it lgbt people only (not sure how to police that anyway, given some forum members we don't know their sexuality/gender anyway) and would not be removing any posts that disagreed with whatever news story or debate that was posted like was suggested, thats insane to be honest for a subforum. Fine for an appreciation thread, but never going to happen in an entire subforum.
