Eighty-six people attempted to cross the English Channel in a single day - amid claims that people smugglers were using threats about Brexit to pressure migrants.

Border Force officials intercepted six small vessels travelling towards the UK on Tuesday.

It is thought to be the highest number of people found in a single day.

French politician Pierre-Henri Dumont said migrants were wrongly being told "the crossing will close" after Brexit.

He blamed "fake news" about the UK's departure from the EU and said "security measures" alone would not stop the rise in crossings.

The Home Office said two small boats carrying a total of 23 people were intercepted by Border Force officials on Tuesday morning.

As the day progressed, four further vessels were intercepted, it said.

More than 1,100 people have crossed the Channel in small boats this year, with 336 in August.

At least within the EU Britain is in the Dublin agreement allowing for returning asylum seekers to the first safe country they arrived to.
It will not be the case after brexit

It is once they apply for asylum, last year 209 people were removed back to where they hopped here from
If they stay illegal then nothing can be done until they are discovered

Every little helps Ollie. But if you want to go it alone then

I've given up caring either way about Brexit, I don't "want" to go it alone, but I do think the boats should be turned back before they arrive.

Unrelated. That's like saying he'd support robberies. Approving of one person's "illegal" activities isn't supporting all of them.

I have no idea what you're trying to say in bold, any chance you can expand on it, please?

I'm just pointing out the rank hypocrisy.

How is it hypocrisy? Supporting Johnson's possibly illegal actions doesn't mean he supports all illegal actions.
