Not really. I'm saying that the system has not been thought through. And, it hasn't.
|
Sorry but I was under the impression that it was an unimportant, non-essential "fun" add-on to the forum G. I didn't realise it was a vital TiBB survival tool.

So you are saying that a number on your screen has put you in a mood, and yet you don't see this as over-reacting? I'm surprised at you G.
|
It's not over reacting when I know that the system is deeply flawed plus as you have +26 how are you in any position to talk. I've given karma for a reason. i know that some forum members are devising karma strategies. it's a terrible system that will cause more problems than it solves.
|
So, my karma rating now gives me "no position to talk"? Well, that's a sad state of affairs indeed.
|
Hang on?
I thought this karma thing was for good posts or nasty posts not for something as petty as spelling speling wrning? So if I forget to put a full stop on the end of a sentence, can some jumped up little guttersnipe take away a karma point? I quite like the fact that some posts help people or make them laugh as I'm sure many others do. This is speaking as a very newbie so I'm sure my view is not as welcome as it is from an longer serving member. Don't worry I've played the forum game for a long time, I've owned my own groups for goodness sake and know what it is like but never experienced the karma system. I'm wondering if I want to bother with it because to be honest I quite like my semi colons and what if little bbcherub (name plucked from thin air and not a real person that I know of) thinks I should be putting a comma instead? He/she'd be wrong of course. I would however be very happy if I wrote something which made someone laugh and if that person wanted to show appreciation then fine. On the other hand, you then have those poor post from some dodgy Characters and that is when the karma system is great. I'd hate to think someone takes a point off just because they do not agree with something you say unless of course they say something insulting or hurtful then karma is beneficial. I have said my piece. |
Indeed it is. Mine was at +12 and most of mine was for good posts. Can you say that? I'm sorry but that is the crux of my argument. It is being used in the wrong way. There is no doubt about that.
|
Girth, I never once claimed I had +26 karma for anything other than others taking the piss out of the karma system. Look through my posts and it's clear that I neither take myself or anyone else's karma seriously.
If it's a badge of honour, then count me out. I'm not here to "win friends and influence people". I'm here for a laugh. |

I dont see why a "fun" tool needs to be so thought out, I dont get why it is such a big deal, I am sorry if I am missing something here! I have been offline and come back to find my Karma reduced but it just doesnt bother me at all!
I really do think some huge over reacting is going on here |

Not really. I dont like the way the system is being used. I don't find it fun the way it is being used at present. I like if my karma increases if I make a good post, but it puts me in a mood like I'm in now when I'm not even on the forum for nearly a week and some silly sniping pr*ck asshole has decided that he has something personal against me and has reduced it.
|
See, this is where you and I seriously disagree. On the point of it being a "system". I don't perceive it as a tool which should be accurate and portray the facts. I view it in much the same way as I view the TiBB member nominations. Sure, we know the same people will get voted, week in, week out, but it's just a bit of fun and if people enjoy it then what's the problem. I don't always participate in the TiBB members nominations and I like having that choice.
If the karma was compulsary, then your argument would stand, but as it is optional, then I really don't see what the problem is. It's something you either want to participate in, or not. How can you police it? Would you put the hours into policing how people give and take karma and what for? Plus it's easy to evade that as well. Say for example an admin asked me to justify bumping up Barry's karma (when clearly I'm only doing it cuz he's my mate) - I could easily pick out a random post and state how good I found it to be. At the end of the day G, karma is a personal opinion. It's another member's personal opinion of your posts. Just because you weren't here for a few days does not mean that there weren't members online reading through a thread containing one of your posts. Maybe they didn't like it. Just a theory. Obviously it's more likely that they did it for spite, but again, it brings me back to the question..... "So what?" |

Well that is a shame GiRTh:sleep::sleep::sleep: I guess you will just have to accept it or turn Karma to "off" Then you can enjoy the day like me :colour: nodisharmony  |
I'm going to turn off my karma in protest at all the fallen karma soldiers who are innocent civilians but have been shot away by a set of damn evil hillbilly grease rats.
What a cruel world . |
