John Bercow was also booed, is he an unfunny comedian?

Livia 04-12-2019 09:43 AM

The biggest stretch, by a long, loooong way.... is equating throwing a bread roll towards a comedian (and I use that term loosely), and hitting someone with a milk shake. Whataboutery AT ITS FINEST!

Everyone's decided the room was full of white racists. No. It was full of men who'd mostly had a drink and found Nish Kumar as unfunny as I do.

Yes Brexit roughnecks, the unfathomable cohort of heavily working class, low-to-middle income British people who have been swindled into becoming Tory/Brexit stans because of tabloid newspapers and painfully stupid Facebook memes that prod at their national pride and give them an outlet for their frustration and dissatisfaction... by steering it away from Westminster onto literally anyone else.

"You're disenfracnhsied you say? The government? NEVER! That's obviously because of the opposition! And the EU! And immigrants!"

"Yarrrr!"

"And people on benefits!"

"Err... we're on in-work benefits..."

"Oh shtt sorry... err... we meant the unemployed! And immigrants on benefits."

"YARRRR!" *lobs breadrolls at Belgium*

To be fair though Brexit roughnecks is probably a misnomer because this was going on pre-ConDem coalition... a co-worker of mine at the time was telling me all about how the Tories were going to sort everything out.

She lost her job to austerity and then got f---'d by Universal Credit. Too bad so sad.

Maybe Brexit will help

While that's all very interesting, it doesn't bear any resemblance to my idea of a load of men at a boozy lunch. I don't care what their social standing is, after a few beers with the boys, they're going to be loud and obnoxious. Hard to politicise that, but good try, TS.

Marsh. 04-12-2019 10:55 AM

Good job it weren't a ladies lunch, they'd be chucking their knickers at him.

LOL....

Who cares what the audience was like, calling people "roughnecks" is a bit classist :/

Throwing the breadroll isn't acceptable, regardless of what jokes were told. Booing someone off stage is fine though. Part of being a standup.

Farage made a similar point at the debate on Sunday, after beer men are obnoxious and abusive and that's acceptable. Only it isn't.
