Labour leadership candidate Sir Keir Starmer's mother-in-law has died after she was in an accident two weeks ago.

The MP, who is running to replace Jeremy Corbyn, had taken a break from campaigning this weekend due to her being ill.

The chairwoman of his campaign, Jenny Chapman, announced on Sunday that his mother-in-law died yesterday.

She tweeted: “My thoughts and prayers are with Keir Starmer and his family.

“Keir’s mother-in-law died yesterday following an accident two weeks ago.

“Thank you to everyone for being so kind and supportive and for respecting his family’s privacy at this difficult time.”

Emily Thornberry has been eliminated from race - thank goodness

She is such a modest person ....

"I'll have a week of rest now, then it's back to the day job of holding this wretched Tory government to account on its foreign policy, and doing so with the same passion, tenacity and forensic skill I've shown for four years in that role," she added

arista 15-02-2020 10:13 AM

Yes Over Cocky
Emily could not get backers

I'm so dissapointed in Thornbury, who'd have thought she would have turned into such a career driven backstabbing turncoat?

Lol yeah, she always seemed so humble and cooperative :joker:

I think her rant about the SNP sank her chances.

Rebecca Long Bailey would have Corbyn in the shadow cabinet, probably as foreign secretary.

Lisa Nandy would vote to abolish the monarchy.

Kier Starmer is looking better and better.

bots 18-02-2020 10:16 AM

Starmer is much more of a favourite to win the leadership than Boris was, it would be a major upset if he lost.

Kizzy 18-02-2020 11:28 AM

Wonder if starmer will be grilled on trans rights like the women interviewed recently have been? I'm interested in his take on party policy.

All three answered a question about the trans stuff last night, I can't really remember the specifics but he had a milquetoast "transwomen are women" response.

Livia 18-02-2020 12:41 PM

Anyone mention trans men at all? Because the trans people who seem to make make ALL the noise, used to be men and are therefore, well used to being listened to. I never see a female to male trans screaming in someone's face "I'M A MAN! JUST LIKE YOU!"
