Served its purpose. ::;

Job done.

If one of the conversations equates to one Jaguar sold, I'd be very surprised. Not all publicity is good publicity. Ask Gerald Ratner.

Potentially... it's going everyone talking about it I guess so in some respect it's great marketing. But it's a risky move to do to such an iconic brand.

The branding is god awful.

There’s no such thing as bad publicity!

I know, but I'm, not discussing this advert anywhere else on the internet, because I don't post on other social media. And luckily I don't know anyone who uses the word "woke" in real life.

Still nobody has explained why it's a woke advert...

Maybe you should contact the newspapers, I think you'll find they're the ones who started the whole woke furore that everyone's so upset about. I imagine 'woke' refers to extreme political correctness, not necessarily just a black/white racist thing. But I responded to the story, I didn't come up with the word 'woke' in connection to it, neither did my fellow forum members.

I'm surprised you don't every hear anyone using the word 'woke'. It's out there, everywhere.

meaning of the word in a wikipedia article

Quote:

has since the 1930s or earlier been used to refer to awareness of social and political issues affecting African Americans, often in the construction stay woke. Beginning in the 2010s, it came to be used to refer to a broader awareness of social inequalities such as racial injustice, sexism, and denial of LGBT rights. Woke has also been used as shorthand for some ideas of the American Left involving identity politics and social justice, such as white privilege and reparations for slavery in the United States

people are expressing dissatisfaction with the advert. It really doesn't matter how they choose to express that dissatisfaction. The brand Jaguar has an associated image and the advert doesn't reflect the image many people expect. That's the reality

You could go to ten different websites and get ten different definitions.

In a nutshell.

Please explain how the two topics are in any way connected.

You people claim to care about racism, not caring that an Indian girl was murdered and let down by police in the UK is the very definition of racism and mysogny if it were a gay man murdered I am sure you wouldn't ignore it?

If you could kindly point to where I have said I don't care about that subject that would be great.

People can care about more than one thing at a time. Hope that helps.

Then the query as to why the advert is woke isn't aimed at you...

The thread is in the side bar same as this one yet you chose to post in here ..I deduce from that you don't particularly care about a womans body found in the boot of a car ...is that a fair assumption?

So in your world, members of this forum have to say something about every piece of news, otherwise they don't care about it, is that what you're saying?

what I am saying is if you cared about black and brown people as much as you claim you would be asking questions about why the police let her down so badly not  because you think you have completed some gotcha about the word woke ...in essence you have shown yourself to care more about getting one over on forum members than members of a community you claim to support ...

I think you may need to log off if you're equating the amount of care someone actually gives to specific tragedies to how much they discuss it on an internet forum. What a bizarre assessment of the situation.

Maybe in your friendship circles but not in mine. We all live in our own echo chamber, I guess.

Maybe not by you. But I have had the question asked of me and asked really rudely. You've said how you're still waiting for an answer and the silence is deafening. I suggested it was the press and social media who first described the ad as woke, you said you don't read them. Maybe you should say who you're expecting to answer you. Or maybe just stop flogging a dead horse?

Maybe you need to log off until you can discuss stuff like a grown up?

If someone (not you) is going to parrot what the press and media say without expanding on their actual thoughts then I think it's only fair to ask them to expand what they mean. They are not obliged to answer, but it's not unreasonable to ask.

The thing is, if you're (not you) going to use words, at least know why you're using them. If you can't explain the definition, which many people who use the term woke can't, then stop using it. And if you don't want to stop, then don't cry when people take you to task.

How do I argue maturely with someone who evidently seems to have the brain capacity of a child?

The suggestion that lack of comment on a specific tragedy towards a specific race on a specific thread on a specific Big Brother forum is racist, misogynistic and shows lack or care is quite the reach and doesn't particularly deserve to be taken seriously or combated with mature debate.

You think you're "taking people to task" on some kind of crusade? Not sure how this section of the forum ever got by without you. Putting you on ignore now so I won't see your posts or be notified when you quote me. Then I can get back to posting with people who know how to debate, whether or not we agree. Bye....

It was just a turn of phrase, Livia.
