Darnell is just pissed that he can't have whet he wants. He wants Sara and it is now obvious to him that she doesn't want him, at least not in the same way. He's angry with himself for feeling the way he does about her, yet doesn't have the mental capacity to deal with it so he takes it out on her. Add to this the fact that Rex is egging him on.
