The general consensus is that Mel will be brought back to be either Phil Mitchell or Jack Branning's trophy wife so JY can get Sharon away from Phil.

I think she'd have quit just because I think John Yorke would have given her a reprieve.

Shame Martin Kemp can't return with her.

1998 and 2002 weren't all that. It's the 1999 to 2001 era you want.

The Steve/Matthew/Saskia story ran from 1998, along with Tiffany's final storyline resulting in her death and Grant's exit in 99.
Then Who Shot Phil continued and led into Lisa fleeing to Portugal in 2002, Steve and Mel's exits. So I'll keep 98-02 ta. :hee:

This doesn't make sense though.

Phil and Mel had a brief fling but they've never pined for each other, particularly not a relationship.

And what a waste if they do shove her there.

Kat/Zoe/Anthony and Spencer were the major lows of 2002 and the first one got way too much screentime. 2001, 2005 and 2003 are the best years of the 00s. Then 2002 (for me).

Outside of the Chrissie plot, 2005 had a lot of rubbish imo.

2005’s one of those years that had one class A story and all the other stuff played a secondary role. 2001’s an example of an even-keel year but the best of 2005’s up there with some of the best work they’ve ever done.

I hated Molfie, France week, Keith’s illiteracy, Juley/Ruby, Sonia/Naomi and Joe Macer though. It’s not a perfect year by any stretch, you won’t get any arguments from anyone there.

Marsh. 25-10-2017 02:18 PM

What is France week? I don't remember this.

Keith, Mickey and the lads basically went to Paris for a week and did nonsense. It’s not worth remembering. We did get Dawn out of it though.

Till today I still don’t get how that awful week of episodes ended up airing the week after Den’s funeral.

Marsh. 25-10-2017 02:22 PM

Oh I remember Dawn arriving living in a posh house with her dad from The Bill.

I don't remember it being in France. [emoji23]

"She wasn't supposed to tell us but obviously she did," Amanda admitted. "We had massive discussions about it but there was no doubt that she was going to go back but it was exciting hearing how and why and who else is going to be in it with her. And the script! Gosh!"
Amanda just can't keep her gob shut!

So, we can expect 98-02 era characters to return with her. Maybe her brother, Lisa?
Or her new husband/family are played by well known actors.

She was definitely due to die in the fire then but JY must’ve changed it at the last minute

This is what I'm convinced of.

He was 8 months too late to save R&R. :(

And it fits in with Laurie Brett being named as one of the people not getting along with him, maybe she disagreed about being killed off or whatever, then we had weeks where Steven's death was barely acknowledged and Laurie was off screen. Before coming back for two weeks to play out her changed exit story.

Marsh. 25-10-2017 04:47 PM

:clap1: We need these gals to fill the R&R gap.

Marsh. 25-10-2017 08:50 PM

Hannah Spearitt is joining the show as Karen Taylor's younger sister.

Spoiler:

:laugh2:

Great actress well known name but wrong character

Denver 25-10-2017 09:07 PM

She should have been cast as her oldest daughter

Too much of an age gap between her and the other kids.

Spearitt is closer to Lorraine Stanley's age than she is the rest of them.

Marsh. 25-10-2017 09:13 PM

She should've been Mel's long lost sister. :smug:
