There does seem to be a growing inclination for people to insist "ARREST THEM!!" when people are doing things they don't like ... ... ... but there is no actual law against. I'm not sure people understand how arrests work, and that it's not just done on a whim. The country would go bankrupt over night with all the wrongful arrest claims if they started carrying out all of the arrests people insist they should.

Yeah. I don't like people climbing on such monuments, but as long as they don't damage or deface them, I don't see it as something to get angry about.

I wouldn't object to law enforcement officers (safely) removing the protesters, but it's not something I actively want, if that makes sense.

The most obvious part of all this, is that the people screaming for arrests now, were the very same people pretending that cancel culture was only part of the "other side", because they were all about free speech.

It was a myth then, and it's proven to be a myth now. Unfortunately, they see zero hypocrisy in all of this.

Stu 16-11-2023 02:04 PM

Cancel culture's always largely just sought to protect conservative Western ideals and values. A lot of engaged proponents of it who take it at face value have no problem at all seeing a bunch of gay, brown, foreign stuff silenced or brushed under the carpet. It's essentially social nausea at acceleration of change.

All the media is peddling the heavily edited IDF videos of Hamas hiding under hospitals, and practically zero media is saying what you're suggesting.

[The Israeli army claims it has found the entrance to
a Hamas tunnel shaft in its
latest video posted on Friday.
It's filmed in the eastern edge of the hospital - as the
side of the surgery building is seen
in the background of the video.
The hole highlighted in the footage appears
to be a few metres deep, littered with and
surrounded by concrete, wood, rubble and sand.
Twisted metal can be seen around the opening
of the hole. In part of the footage,
a bulldozer can be seen in the background.

The lower part of the alleged tunnel appears
to have a smooth surface, but it offers only
a limited view, so it is difficult to be certain
what purpose it might serve.

From the position and length of the shadow,
Sky News estimates the footage above
was taken between 12pm and 2pm local time
on Thursday.
But beyond that, it is not possible to gauge how
deep it goes.
The army has not released further footage
at al Shifa relating to alleged tunnels.]

That's true tbf.

Hopefully they don't though, because while I don't like Hamas and their borderline Nazi beliefs that they're spreading (not just to the Palestinians but to the rest of the world as well) I don't like the fact that Israel are blitzing innocent people en masse.

I seriously hope that some kind of compromise can be reached between both countries, but I don't think it'll be in our lifetime.

Yes it's war, one that hasn't just been going on for just over 4 weeks now but for a very long time.

I don't think it right that Israeli lives are taken but then I don't think it acceptable either that Palestinian civilian lives are wiped out too.

I am dismayed at our governnent and the opposition plus the USA and EU Nations who are not calling for more and actively doing more to get this killing halted.
Both from what happened on October 7th by Hamas and now since then by the Israeli government.

If most of the World isn't on the side of protecting civilian lives everywhere, then we really are in a very dark and dangerous place.
Allowing it to begin and go on and on.and ON.

I 100% agree Joey.

I think what's also really disturbing to me throughout all of this is how some people are treating it like it's a Football match or a Big Brother eviction on Social Media.

Instead of who do you want to win the match or be evicted, instead it's "which group do you want to die?" And what's even more sick about it is how these same people go on self-righteous tirades, and this sort of behaviour happens on both sides of this fight and I'm personally ****ing sick of it.

Mind you that doesn't excuse Israel's own atrocities during this conflict, but Owen Jones is being slightly disingenuous imo.

Still no law enforced

Because protesting for Palestine is perfectly legal.
