no and im glad i dont use that crap (social media anyways). im good at avoiding spoilers for all things i watch. its not hard to avoid. just dont go to places/threads that have anything to do with what you dont want to be spoiled on. season 1 i watched the first 3 eps but i got busy and didnt watch the rest til a week or so after the season was over. still didnt know what happened til i watched it.

Jords 02-06-2014 01:14 AM

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 02-06-2014 02:11 AM

waiting for slaynerys to take kings landing is like waiting for broke with expensive taste to drop

Locke. 02-06-2014 04:15 AM

Right. Things I liked about the episode:

Spoiler:

The trial by combat was perfect. I liked Oberyn a lot in the books but I loved him in the show, the actor was perfect in this role (and when he was originally cast I didn't like the casting at all). The addition of him shouting towards Tywin when asking who gave the order was brilliant. Ellaria's reaction to what followed was pretty much how I imagine most viewers will be as well, lol. Excellent acting. Oberyn will be missed.

Sansa!!! I guess we're getting into the Sansa that we haven't read about yet from the next book. She has really learned how to play the game now and it'll be great seeing how that works out next season considering we still won't be any closer to getting the book by then. I was a bit annoyed that they had her reveal to the Vale lords that she was Sansa Stark, but then I remembered that Littlefinger was planning to reveal that soon in the books anyway, guess they just decided to make it sooner in the show. In my opinion that should be the last we see of her this season (especially because episode 9 is only featuring characters at Castle Black), but most likely she'll get a scene in ep10.

At long last Jorah has been banished. I guess with Iain Glenn being a Series Regular it made sense to drag it out this long, it'll only be 3/4 episodes that he is missing from now instead of a full season. Emilia Clarke was actually good in this scene as well, first time she hasn't put in a cringeworthy performance since that "Dracarys" moment early last season. Pretty funny that her story is so boring from this point on that they've had to create a romance between Missandei and Grey Worm though.

Roose/Ramsay. That little bastard saying they are going to their new "home" (Winterfell), very annoying. I liked how Roose showed no affection or fondness or any emotion at all after legitimizing Ramsay and him going down on his knees and pledging himself to him. Horrible Boltons. The stuff in Moat Cailin felt a bit rushed and wasn't anywhere close to the books, but Alfie Allen was great in that scene.

Things I didn't like:

Spoiler:

The Hound and Arya making it to the Eyrie, and Arya's laugh after finding out Lysa was dead. I don't know if she was laughing ironically because yet again she got so close and all hope has been snatched away again, or if it's at The Hound's expense because everyone he coulda got money for her from is gone, but either way it sucked. Why even bother have them going to the Eyrie? Silly filler that wasn't needed in an episode like this.

Tyrion and Jaime's conversation about that Lannister and crushing beetles... I get that it was a bit of foreshadowing about what was about to happen to Oberyn's head, but it didn't need to be about 5 minutes long. I think another conversation between Oberyn and Tyrion woulda been better, I think that may have been how it was in the books too. I'm sure they were drinking together beforehand.

Close to being a 10/10 but not quite there.. Next weeks will be though.

Smithy 02-06-2014 02:38 PM

**** me I knew it was coming but I didn't expect THAT to happen D:

Also, the scene between Missandei and Grey Worm wasn't necessary it all (unless they end up having a romance in book 6/7), nor Jamie/Tyrion both those scenes felt like major filler :umm2:

Tom4784 02-06-2014 06:07 PM

It was an excellent episode

Spoiler:

emotionally destructive, but excellent. I shall mourn Oberyn, he was a great character and it's a shame that they didn't bring him into it earlier so we could have gotten more time with him.

MTVN 02-06-2014 11:35 PM

It was a great fight but I'm not sure with how it turns out, supposedly the Mountain is one of the strongest and most successful warriors in Westeros right but Oberyn just made a fool out of him all fight and made him just look like a great clumsy oaf, might as well have had bloody Hodor fighting. Then Oberyn just dies because he got a bit too complacent really which is annoying, though I guess it makes it all more dramatic

Agree that the Jaime/Tyrion conversation went on a bit long for what it was, I don't really understand why they need to have filler like that when there's always so much of different storylines and characters that they can show.

Shaun 02-06-2014 11:39 PM

just watching now

silly gilly

Locke. 02-06-2014 11:40 PM

I think he's one of the best fighters because his reach is so much more than pretty much everyone else in Westeros rather than him being a skillful swordsman, like Bronn said there was a chance he'd take him but one miss-step and he's dead. Oberyn is also classed among the best fighters in Westeros and despite Gregor being fast (again, according to Bronn) Oberyn was much faster.

I think the top 5 are supposed to be Barristan, Jaime before he lost his hand, the Clegane brothers, and Oberyn.

I think Oberyn's fighting style is supposed to be mostly unknown to everyone as well, so whereas he knew what to expect from Gregor, Gregor didn't know what to expect from him.

Locke. 02-06-2014 11:42 PM

I think

Shaun 02-06-2014 11:49 PM

oh for goodness' sake ramsay can't anything ever be pretty and quiet

MTVN 02-06-2014 11:50 PM

I see, suppose both the Clegane's are a couple of old school blokes more focused on their brute strength and power and Oberyn is supposed to be strongest at close quarters right, interesting that Jaime didn't think Oberyn was going to stand much chance though then he basically wiped the floor with him

Locke. 02-06-2014 11:54 PM

Another thing is that Gregor mainly fights in battles rather than one on one.. I couldn't imagine Oberyn being able to dance and jump around a battlefield like that

Shaun 03-06-2014 12:07 AM

oh daenerys **** off

jorah > you

Shaun 03-06-2014 12:32 AM

....ok that was nice

Jords 03-06-2014 06:15 AM

Spoiler:

**** SAKE!

Im so annoyed but that episode was perfect. I loved Oberyn's character and the fight was absolutely fantastic... they got it so right with the big build up to Oberyn's victory then **** Mountain pops his head open. My reaction mirrored Oberyn's wife to be quite honest. I liked the foreshadowing of the beetle convo between Tyrion and Jaime and also enjoy their closeness lately. Although I agree it did drag on a bit.

Sansa's character is consistently impressing me, shes really learning how to survive in her world. Im looking forward to whats to come with her and LF. And as for Arya, her laugh was great in my opinion. Completely relatable in the way of 'laughing in a situation you shouldnt' just because its so damn ironic. Id say she was laughing at the circumstance of coming so close to her family but yet again they are all dead (i.e. Red Wedding) rather than at The Hound.

I enjoyed the Dany/Jorah and Missandei/GW scenes however I find that Ramsay is becoming absolutely tiresome. Bolton? **** OFF. As for Sam/Gilly... meh, could have potential but in this ep they were irrelevant to my interest.
