The U.S. national team wanted hot and steamy conditions to prepare for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier at Costa Rica, and they certainly got their wish during a five-day Miami training camp that concludes Sunday morning.

''Wow -- it's like a sauna here,'' defender Oguchi Onyewu said. ``I can't imagine it will be any more uncomfortable there.''

The team heads to Costa Rica on Monday after a final closed practice at FIU on Sunday morning. Although they sit in first place in the region in World Cup qualifying, coach Bob Bradley and his players are expecting a daunting task.

For one thing, many of the key U.S. players were unable to participate in the camp because they were playing for their clubs until this weekend. Only 12 of the 24 players practiced together.

Saprissa Stadium is one of the more difficult places to play in the Americas because hostile fans are very close to the field, and they have been known to throw everything from batteries to cups of urine. The United States is 0-5-1 there in World Cup qualifying matches.

''Costa Rica has had great success at Saprissa Stadium. It's loud,'' Bradley said. ``They are very comfortable there. They have great confidence there. And certainly we are aware that we have never won there. So when we look at different challenges, talk about things that we still want to achieve, this is a good example.''

Said Onyewu: ``It's wild at that stadium. Most people don't realize how difficult it is for us to qualify for the World Cup. They think it's a breeze because we're a bigger country, but it's never easy to play in places like Costa Rica. We go through a lot, the fans are totally against us, and the weather conditions are usually very hot and humid.''

Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has put a price tag on winger Franck Ribery of "at least 100m euros (£87m)".

"If I hear that there was an offer for 125m euros for Kaka, then Ribery has a market value of at least 100m," said Hoeness.
