Always leads to one or two episodes of strong Sharon with some cracking lines.

Then we revert back to Doormat Mitchell.

This is true. I remember the first time when she decided to consult Marcus Christie to take Phil down and DTC hyped up 'a new Sharon' and she reverted back to the old one after like a couple of episodes.

I feel like I only look back on DTC fondly because I know he'd have killed Ian off before he killed Ronnie and Roxy off.

Is this the most original characters (4) that have been in the show at the same time for years?

What a lovely ideal. *dabs eyes*

There was only her and Ian at that point wasn't there?

The last time was like 2004/2005 I think when there was Ian, Pauline, Den and Sharon?

Oh that's what I meant, didn't Pauline die shortly after Den and Sharon left within a short space of time?

As is traditional in British soaps, female characters in general are central to the programme. These characters include strong, brassy, long-suffering women who exhibit diva-like behaviour and stoically battle through an array of tragedy and misfortune.[26] Such characters include Angie Watts, Kathy Beale, Sharon Watts, Pat Butcher, Denise Fox and Tanya Branning. Conversely there are female characters who handle tragedy less well, depicted as eternal victims and endless sufferers, who include Sue Osman, Little Mo Mitchell, Laura Beale, Lisa Fowler, Ronnie Mitchell and Linda Carter. The 'tart with a heart' is another recurring character, often popular with viewers. Often their promiscuity masks a hidden vulnerability and a desire to be loved. Such characters have included Pat Butcher (though in her latter years, this changed), Tiffany Mitchell, Kat Slater, Stacey Slater, Dawn Swann and Roxy Mitchell.[27]
Iconic.

My old English teacher made a status on FB about them being vile for killing R&R and bringing '****e' Michelle Fowler back. I've now come to the conclusion Marsh is a scouse red headed female who teaches English.

Tiffany was a tart? icr.

And Ronnie embodied both I think, she handled tragedy badly on some occasions and stoically powered through on others.

Cal. 12-01-2017 10:08 PM

It's outdated obviously. Kathy wouldn't be part of the 'strong' women anymore and Stacey doesn't really qualify as a 'tart with a heart' at present.

Daniel-X 12-01-2017 10:09 PM

'Tart with a heart' characters where my faves when I was younger, now I prefer the ones who have long suffering battles and deal with them stoically.

Sharon Mitchell
Shirley Carter
Linda Carter
Stacey Fowler
Denise Fox

IMO at present in the show.

Daniel-X 12-01-2017 10:11 PM

Is this the SOC's replacement when they walk in and Martin, Shakil, Bex and Michelle are the only four remaining?

In 2012, a survey done by Whitaker's revealed that 11% of British people questioned could not name a single world leader, but nearly half could list five characters in EastEnders. Most named was Ronnie Mitchell (44%), followed by Roxy Mitchell (40%), Sharon Mitchell (30%), Kim Fox (28%) and Sonia Jackson (24%).[33]
