Channel 4 chiefs staged the mock funeral for an advert to promote this summer's last-ever series.

Thirty former housemates arrived to film at the graveside, where legendary Geordie narrator Marcus Bentley put in a rare on-camera appearance dressed up as the presiding vicar.

And with so many outrageous show-offs in one place - including "Nasty" Nick Bateman and arch villainess "South London It Girl" Charley Uchea - it was not long before things got bitchy.

An insider said yesterday: "There was a lot of one-upmanship going on - the older contestants thought they were more important than the newer ones.

"There were a lot of them there and they all wanted to be in shot, obviously.

"Tempers got a bit frayed and there were some cross words - not helped by the fact it was a long day. It felt like a typical day in the BB house."
