Yeah, I know, the dog who just died was really nervous, especially of strange men. I reckon someone really hurt her before she was rescued. Gav had her for 12 years but she never lost that fear of people.

But yeah, that's why I like to get them from shelters, because alot of them have had bad lives beforehand

aw, I don't know how people can be so cruel to animals. It breaks my heart. You're making me want to get another rescue dog now instead of a Chihuahua :bawling:

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 30-11-2011 12:10 PM

get a labrador :amazed:

it is bad how most people buy dogs from breeders though when there are thousands of dogs in rescue centers looking for a home

i cant saying anything though coz ive done it too

Yeah, I know. I never actually bought a dog before, I've only ever had rescue dogs but I want a Chihuahua so much but now I feel bad :(

Not at all - there are very different reasons and very different type dogs in both places. Not everyone wants a pure bred, some are more than happy with a Heinz57 mutt....same way as many cat owners are happy with a mere moggie. It's just personal choice for very different personal reasons.

you still pay for rescue dogs dont you i had to pay £200 for one of mine :suspect:

I'd two cats in that situ - sisters, got them from the Animal Shelter when they were about 8weeks old. White died when she was 19, her sister Black lasted 2 more years. Black seemed very lost for a long time, it was heartbreaking....but when she realised that she got all the attention and all the love........she seemed happy enough with that.

It always seems with rescues that it's men they're afraid of not women....one of ours, who is dead now was afraid of one of my sons..but more so when he wore dark colours:puzzled:......he becambe closer to my son than any of us eventually

£200  They usually just ask for a donation I think. Maybe pay for the costs of whatever shots they had but no where near that amount

Yeah, they must have bad experiences with men rather than women I suppose.

Yeah, I think we had to pay near that...depends on the centre I guess

She who must be obeyed cost me the grand total of £35 from Cats Protection League - which effectively covered only the cost of them neutering her.

Well, it's been a while since we got our last dog so maybe it's changed now, seems excessive though when they're trying to home the animals. I know they do good work and all but that seems an awful lot
