Michael Norman and Noah Lyles each win their semi-final heat for the 200m :o :o :o Norman beat Gatlin by 0.02 head to head

Macie Lightfoot 09-07-2016 01:03 AM

Brianna Rollins, Kristi Castlin, and Nia Ali!!!! Queen Harrison fourth, Keni Harrison only for sixth :o

and not to pat myself on the back or anything, but I predicted that top four and only had Queen and Nia switched.

and a 12.34 for Rollins -- she's back!!!

Headie 09-07-2016 10:24 AM

Omg @ Shamier Little and Keni Harrison not making the teams!

Ugh I really wanted Keni to break the WR this year too </3

It's gonna feel weird having a blue track for an Olympics, think this is the first time it's ever been that way

Headie 09-07-2016 11:47 PM

Praying Jeff Porter makes the US team... final is in about an hour :fc:

Macie Lightfoot 10-07-2016 12:46 AM

David Oliver scratched from the HH final but here we go!

Wow @ that European 5000m Men's final, that's the closest finish I've ever seen, especially considering it was a long distance race and not a sprint race. Gold, Silver and Bronze all given the same time, and 4th was one hundredth outside winning Gold :o

I used to be a big athletics fan, back in the day of Linford, I would have never have missed an event like this, but I haven't been that interested in the past 5-10 year's and didn't even realise this was happening.

Just checked out the men's 100m, that was a disgrace the British lad getting kicked out.

Who are our top male sprinters at present? and where is Gemili? is he going to Rio?

Full team is announced this Wednesday but some athletes have already secured automatic selection at the trials a few weeks ago, Gemili being one of them in the 200m.

Our current auto qualifiers in the 100m sprint are James Dasaolu (PB 9.91 - second fastest British man ever) and James Ellington (PB 10.04 just recently set at these Euro champs). We can send 3 athletes per event so the person who finished 3rd at the trials will probably be sent too - that's CJ Ujah who has also run under 10 seconds in the past year with a PB of 9.96.

In the men's 200m, Adam Gemili (PB 19.98) and Danny Talbot (PB 20.27) were top two at the trials and so are automatically selected, but the big talent is Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake who ran 19.95 earlier this year which ranks him 5th in the world this year going into the Olympics, so there's a real chance he could make the final (same for Adam if he can match his PB again). Nethaneel will most likely be selected as the other potential athlete for the third spot (Zharnel Hughes, PB 20.02 who trains with Usain Bolt and broke Usain Bolt's junior records and was 5th at last years World Champs) has withdrawn from potentially being selected due to injury.

I'll post the team here in full once it's revealed on Wednesday!

Updated the OP with the Rio Athletics timetable

Feels weird to finally give this thread the ~Rio makeover~ now that there's no other major events upcoming til then... it's come around really fast!

Just watched the 200m final, and Mitchell-Blake looked way off, although I see he's only 22 and I'm sure he'll get better with the more championship experience he gets. And running 19.95 at his young age is impressive, let's hope he can fulfil his potential in the year's to come.

Yes, he has only just recovered from a slight injury so was not at his best in the Euro champs, although he was given lane 1 which is hard to run due to the tight bend.

I'll give you a few races Alf to help you with your catch-up before Rio

Sydney makes the team!!!!!!! Dalilah Muhammad 52.88, Ashley Spencer 54.02, Sydney McLaughlin 54.15! Youngest American to qualify since 1972 I think they said, and a world junior record for her.

Macie Lightfoot 10-07-2016 11:54 PM

Johnny Dutch led coming off the tenth hurdle and then got passed by Kerron Clement, Byron Johnson, Michael Tinsley, and Ricky Babineaux to only come up in fifth :o yikes.

Headie 11-07-2016 12:05 AM

Sydney

How many days of US Trials are left Troy?

Macie Lightfoot 11-07-2016 12:06 AM

Today's the last day I'm so devastated it's kinda pathetic.

Brenda Martinez dives at the line for the third spot in the 1500!!!!!! Amazing comeback after that 800 fiasco

Macie Lightfoot 11-07-2016 12:18 AM

Tori Bowie wins the 200 and the Ducks go 2-3-5 with Deajah Stevens and Jenna Prandini going to Rio!!! Prandini trips at the line and holds Felix off by 0.01 :o :o :o

Headie 11-07-2016 09:56 AM

Felix </3

Mess @ them changing the Rio timetable just for her and then she doesn't even make the team for the 200.

Oh well the 200 seems to be advancing with times anyway, it'll probably be easier for her to win the 400m

Headie 11-07-2016 10:07 AM

Also only 2 Russians have been cleared to compete at Rio - Darya Klishina and Yuliya Stepanova - under the IOC neutral flag. This is because they train and have their lifestyle in America and are not part of the systematic doping. All other Russians have been denied, including the homophobic Yelena Isinbayeva who claimed they were "taking away her human rights" by not allowing her to compete yet she said gay marriage should be banned lol
