Before everyone has a meltdown - yes, that is terrible. However:

1) It's actually only 300k down on last year. (And it beat the 2nd launch from last year.)

2) It actually came 3rd in it's slot, beating Channel 4 and BBC 2.

3) That share of 9.3% isn't that bad, plus it was against a football match.

Where it goes from here is where the scary bit lies. But it was trending worldwide last night on Twitter, so the young audience clearly hasn't gone anywhere. Time will tell. :worry:

aman201 13-05-2015 10:40 AM

Expected.

God knows what they were thinking launching the same day as Barca and Bayern meet in a Champions League semi final.

jennyjuniper 13-05-2015 10:42 AM

It was less than 2 million (I.8) I think and dropped to under 1 million for BOTS (Hardly suprising when Bots had Helen Wood AND Katy Price)

Luke_Thomas_Patton 13-05-2015 10:51 AM

Launch ratings are never an indication of how a series will perform. Especially seeing that BB13 launched with a 2.7 overnight but officially averaged 1.6 and secrets and lies launched with 2.15 overnight??? But officially averaged 1.9 overall.

Last night averaged 1.83 inc+1 and BOTS got 675K. Alot of people, myself included seemed to really enjoy the launch and will hopefully mean it'll hold a good audience share. Power Trip may of got a good rating for the first launch but the second part slumped.

crazycolaist 13-05-2015 11:24 AM

I did say 1.7mi (Check ma historyyyy) I'm guessing 1.4mi as a base for highlights. Will probably go to 1mil on good weekends (weather wise) & Evictions 1.6-1.8mil. I do hope some eps hit 2mil though depending on the events which withold this season.
i'd just like to add, they havent done much ads about it this year. Officials will probably make it hit 2mil

Rob! 13-05-2015 11:29 AM

Oh yeah, officially it'll hit 2m.

Exactly the number i said it would be and you called me negative and made out there was no chance.

It was a good show and the series will probably still average 1.5 in highlights it has its core fanbase now who will allwaays stick with it.

Its not a mega bad rating when you look at TOWIE/.GEORDIE SHORE/ EX ON THE BEACH are all seen as huge successes but get less than half this audience.

No its not its about 400k/500k down on last years launch.

Yeah my fault, I thought it was 300k up not down lol.

Jamesy 13-05-2015 12:10 PM

I think it's a good rating though. Nothing to worry about. As long as it stays above 1 million each each episode Big Brother will be going no where. It still does far better ratings wise than any of C5s other shows.

daniel-lewis-1985 13-05-2015 12:14 PM

Whats Digital spy on about.

"The figure is up 300,000 on the corresponding overnight audience for last June's Power Trip launch"

I think Digital Spy have worked that out by the average rating for the two BB15 launches (since this year it's one launch and not two).

*mazedsalv** 13-05-2015 12:17 PM

Not as bad as I thought when I first saw the ratings. Yes, it was down on last years launch, but last years launch dropped a lot from the first launch to the 2nd night of launch, so at least last night MORE people saw the HMs as an entirety compared to last year.

Also, it had more competition this year, for the first time in years it launched in May, they released the HMs before the launch AND it followed BB15.. I mean if still 1.83m still tuned in after that BB15 final, got to say, BB does still have a dedicated audience.

The problem lies with this... how far will it fall? I think it will keep quite a lot of it's audience. And as someone said, BB13 launched with 2.7m overnights and the final got 1.5m. BB14 launched with 2.1m and the final got 2.0m. So some can really hold audiences, some can't.

Rob! 13-05-2015 12:55 PM

Exactly - and let's be honest, anybody who wasn't expecting this to be the lowest rated launch ever was kidding themselves. There was just too much going against it. There's more than enough time for it to build on this now, but only time will tell.

IRISH RATNGS:
Big Brother's launch got 563,000 viewers last night. It was measured between 3e and TV3 as the show split last night.

You can't really count Irish and UK viewing figures together.

The 1.8 BB got last night will be boosted by the officials, +1, MTV repeats and other things

Why can't you? They were all watching the same programme?

Because really they're in separate countries. The BARB ratings that we get for Big Brother won't take the ratings from TAM into account when the official averages are revealed, because of the two different countries. Like I said, the ratings we get will take Channel 5, Channel 5+1, Channel 5+24 and usually MTV/5* into account.

It's like Big Brother Australia for example. Their show airs in Australia and New Zealand and the NZ ratings aren't taken into account.
