It's the government's job to protect the people. so yes, politicians in the UK are responsible for how the UK was affected by the GFC.

If there's another referendum (and there would be strong calls for it with these numbers) I could see them winning it this time and with an impending EU referendum which'll be dictated by the press we could see us breaking the union and out of Europe within a few years
